Pippi Longstocking will play at The National Children's Theatre from 7 March - 16 April, 2011. The theatre is located at 3 Junction Avenue in Parktown Johannesburg. Booking is essential, please call the theatre at 011 484 1584. The show is written by Astrid Lindgren and adapted for the stage in a translation by Thomas W. Olson. Tickets are R90 for adults and R80 for children. Visit the theatre's official website for more information.

"Directed by Joyce Levinsohn, Pippi ingeniously captures both the sparkiness and the pathos of the little girl who lives alone with her monkey and her horse. Her role is not of a hero, but rather that of a magical helper or donor in a fairy tale, bringing colour and joy into ordinary children's lives. She is also the source of unlimited wealth, fulfilling the wildest dreams of any child.

The show is energetic, outrageous, good fun and the set is a glorified jungle gym. The message is clear; whatever life throws at you, good or bad, you can triumph if you believe in yourself. This is a theatrical adventure at its best - a perfect treat for the entire family."

The National Children's Theatre Trust (NCTT) formerly the Johannesburg Youth Theatre Trust was established in 1990 with Joyce Levinsohn as its Artistic Director. The NCT presents stage adaptations of classics, contemporary plays and educational theatre to the acclaim of critics and joy of audiences. Well-loved stories, fantastic characters, beautiful sets and costumes come together to bring the magic of theatre to thousands of children from all socio-economic backgrounds.
