Johannes Slabbert

Award-winning young South African baritone, Johannes Slabbert, and virtuoso clarinetist, Junnan Sun, will join forces at Nederburg on Sunday 27 September.

Both musicians are winners of national music competitions presented by the Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (ATVK). In 2014, Slabbert was announced as winner of ATKV Muziqanto, a national classical music competition for young adult singers, and in 2015, Sun was announced as the overall winner of ATKV Muziq, a national classical music competition for young adult instrumentalists.

The audience can look forward to a delightful programme of music performed by two exceptionally gifted young artists. Slabbert will sing a selection of German lieder, an aria from Rossini's opera THE BARBER OF SEVILLE, popular Afrikaans songs, as well as timeless melodies such as "Music of the Night" and "Some Enchanted Evening".

Works to be performed by Junnan Sun include the Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Op.167 by Camille Saint-Saëns, Luigi Bassi's brilliant Concert Fantasy on motives from Verdi's RIGOLETTO and the very famous slow movement from Mozart's Concerto for Clarinet in A major.

Slabbert and Sun will be accompanied by well-known pianist, Philippus Hugo, who also compiled the special programme.

The concert, hosted in collaboration with the ATKV at the historical Nederburg Manor House in Paarl, starts at 17:00 and tickets at R220 per person include sherry on arrival, Nederburg Brut during interval, plus a selection of top Nederburg wines which will be served with a delicious finger supper after the concert. Bookings can be made via email on concerts@distell.co.za or by calling 021 809 8412 or 021 809 8106 during office hours. The series is presented by Nederburg, in association with the Distell Foundation.
