Cobus Venter in GROET DIE GROTMAN

Lefra Productions has a brand new "caveman production" for South Africa. In the tradition of DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN, for which Lefra Productions holds a South African theatre record with a run of more than 10 years with over 1 000 performances, GROET DIE GROTHELD will see Cobus Venter on stage in the title role. The production is not a sequel to DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN; rather, it is an original piece by South Africa's king of farce, Frans Swart, that promises to be as authentically South African as biltong, boerewors and the Blue Bulls.

GROET DIE GROTMAN introduces Gert Struwig, a real caveman - definitely not a metro man - who plans his barbeques, parties and his family activities around rugby. His heroes are rugby players. His whole existence is rugby. But Gert's existence is dramatically altered by his own question:"Am I my son's hero?" GROET DIE GROTMAN aims to have you laughing until you cry as Gert figures the answer.

Cobus Venter has made his mark as singer and actor over the past thirteen years, with leading roles in musicals such as FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, DIS HOE DIT WAS, ONS VIR JOU, SHAKA ZULU and JOCK OF THE BUSHVELD. In 2010, he was nominated for two Mercury Durban Theatre Awards, as Don Quixote in MAN OF LA MANCHA and as Freddy Einsford-Hill in MY FAIR LADY, the latter of which he won. Venter has also made a name for himself in stage productions such as SIENER IN DIE SUBURBS, SWAELDUIF and FULL CIRCLE. As someone and actor who enjoys making people laugh, he has also showed his mettle in farces like MY BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BABA and KNYPIE OP DIE KAND. His highlights as classical tenor include DIE SKEPPING and POSKANTOOR

Frans Swart has made his mark in Afrikaans theatre directing farces like MY VROU SE MAN SE VROU, MY VROU SE MAN SE LYK SE TAS, MY BOETIE SE SUSSIE SE OU, MY BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BOETIE SE BABA and DAA' GAAT DIE BRUID! as well as several stage adaptations of the Liewe Heksie stories. Swart is also the organiser of the very successful Oppiwater Art Festival.

GROET DIE GROTHELD - presented with the gracious collaboration of Stuttaford Van Lines, McCarthy Volkswagen Arcadia, RSG and Sounds Good - will be performed all over South Africa and has been selected and booked by many local festivals. The show will be performed at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria on 3 June at 20:00. Bookings can be made online at Computicket or by phone on 0861 915 8000. As usual, groups of 10 or more can get a substantial discount on ticket prices by contacting Lefra Productions directly on 011 815 3000. The show carries a suggestion of parental guidance for younger theatregoers.
