The KBT Productions presentation of Bernard Slade's Tony-award-winning play, SAME TIME NEXT YEAR, directed by Fleur du Cap Lifetime Achievement Award winner Christopher Weare, will be performed at the Fugard Studio Theatre from 17 to 28 June 2014. Featuring Paul Du Toit and Julie Hartley, the production received rave reviews when it opened last year at the Kalk Bay Theatre and won a Standard Bank Ovation Award at last year's National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

SAME TIME NEXT YEAR is a classic love story, with a twist. It tells the story of Doris and George who meet by chance at a country inn, have an affair and fall in love. They are both married to other people, so agree to meet at the same time, same place, once a year. A genuinely romantic story, they discover they are the loves of each others' lives, and twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly played out, with a delicious wit, compassion, poignancy, sense of humor and nostalgia.

The play first opened on Broadway in 1975 and ran for more than three years. It was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New American Play. Ellen Burstyn won both the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play. Charles Grodin was nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play, and Gene Saks was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Director of a Play. In 1978, a film adaptation directed by Robert Mulligan starred Ellen Burstyn and Alan Alda.

Paul du Toit is one of South Africa's best known performers, having been seen on South African TV screens in BINNELAND and the documentary series ROUGH OR SMOOTH, which he also co-produced, and on stage in productions such as OFFBEAT BROADWAY and the Fugard Theatre's THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, for which he received a Fleur du Cap nomination for his role as Brad. He will reprise the role in the highly anticipated return season at the Fugard Theatre, opening in July 2014.

Julie Hartley has enjoyed 26 years of a varied career on stage, television and on the big screen, including shows such as GREASE and CAMELOT and she is probably most remembered in South Africa for her role in the naughty all South African comedy LIPSTICK DIPSTIEK.

SAME TIME NEXT YEAR is at the Fugard Studio Theatre from 17-28 June 2014 on Tuesdays to Fridays at 8pm and on Saturdays at 4pm and 8pm with tickets from R100 (Tuesdays) to R150 (Wed- Sat) through Computicket or the Fugard Theatre box office on 021 461 4554. Block bookings and special discounts are available for the Friends of the Fugard, pensioners and learners via 021 461 4554. The production will also be performed as part of Cape Town Edge at the 2014 National Arts Festival.
