Fleur du Cap Theatre Award Nominees Announced

The nominees have been announced for the prestigious 48th annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards that will take place at a glamorous function on Sunday 17th March at 6pm at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.

The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards is the premier event of its kind in South Africa. For more than four decades, the awards have been given to outstanding individuals for theatre excellence, specifically focusing on professional theatre productions staged in the Cape Town Metropole and surrounds, over the period of one calendar year. Each award carries a R15 000 cash prize as well as a silver medallion, making it one of the most coveted theatre awards in the industry.

Awards are given in 21 different categories and the judges for the 2012 productions were Africa Melane, Coreen Lloyd, Denise Bester, Dr Beverley Brommert, Dr Gabriel Bothma, Gillian Mitchell, Herman van der Westhuizen, Jill Makram, Len Ashton, Mariana Malan, Marina Griebenow, Peter Tromp, Rone Arendse and Wayne Muller. All voting processes are audited and are overseen by the legal firm Cluver Markotter Inc. The nominees in the various categories are as follows:

The following awards will be announced at the ceremony: the Award for Innovation in Theatre, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Peoples Choice Award. Those wishing to vote for the People's Choice Award should SMS FDC to 33783, click on the link and select their favorite play of 2012. Each SMS costs R1,50 (none are free) and T's & C's apply.
