It is the opening night of Great Comeback Tour of Afrikaans superstar, Duke Vermeulen. And the man behind this champagne event is the West Rand promoter, Barry van der Linde. For Barry himself, this is the biggest night of his career, as convincing the Platinum Prince to return to the stage after five years' absence was by no means easy.

As Barry announces Duke, he sings the praises of this maestro, referring to him as "an icon among icons" and "the big daddy of Afrikaans music." Barry also thank sponsors and volunteers like Reverend Kosie and his team help sell tickets. As the evening progresses, it gradually becomes clear that Duke has not arrived yet, and Barry has to start playing for time. And when it becomes clear that Duke is definitely not going to show up, Barry has to change his tune completely.

This is the setup for Lefra Productions' brand new exciting production, BARRY VAN DER LINDE BIED AAN... Barry van der Linde is played by well-known actor Ben Kruger (better known as Cousin Gert in SEWENDE LAAN and who is also currently appeared in BINNELANDERS). The piece was written by Jaco Botha, with Frans Swart taking on directorial duties.

BARRY VAN DER LINDE BIED AAN...is a hilarious, truly Afrikaans story about a gambling man who has to talk himself out of trouble when his big chance doesn't pay off. The show opens at the ABSA KKNK at the kykNET Hoërskoolsaal, playing from 3-6 April 3 at 20:30. Bookings can be made at Computicket.
