The Baxter Theatre's Afrikaans season is in full swing, with the second of three productions, DIE ONGELOOFLIKE REIS VAN MAX EN LOLA, having opened last week. Two of the darlings of South African stage and television, Vinette Ebrahim and Chris van Niekerk, have teamed up to present a this dark comedy, which is currently running at the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio.

Written by Ebrahim and Hugo Taljaard (who also directs the two-hander), DIE ONGELOOFLIKE REIS VAN MAX EN LOLA tells the charming and hilarious story of 80-year-old Max who is gay and white, and Lola, a 79-year-old sharp-tongued coloured woman, who have been friends for over 50 years despite the country's political history. At Max's 80th birthday party, Lola is the only guest who arrives and it all ends as a party for just these two eccentric characters who share a love for the bioscope. The play is performed in Afrikaans mixed with Cape dialect.

Well known for her role as Charmaine Beukes in SEWENDE LAAN, Ebrahim last performed at the Baxter a few years ago in the hit production MY NAAM IS ELLEN PAKKIES, which played to great acclaim throughout South Africa. Van Niekerk, who is well known for his role as Francois in SEWENDE LAAN, can currently also be seen in the brand-new Afrikaans television drama series VLUG NA EGIPTE on KykNET.

A Baxter Monday special will take place on 2 February, for which date patrons can book for a light meal as well as the show show for R120.
