The 10th Anniversary of the South Dakota Festival of Books will be held today, September 28-30, 2012.  To register, click here.

This year, for the first time, we welcome Roy Blount Jr., Heid Erdrich, Karl Marlantes and Will Hermes! We’ll also reconnect with old festival favorites like past One Book South Dakota authors Elizabeth Berg, Leif Enger, and Kent Meyers. And for the first time ever, we will host a special off-site festival kickoff. Award-winning tribal author Sherman Alexie will deliver the 2012 Griffith Honors Forum Lecture at South Dakota State University the evening of Sept. 26, in Frost Arena on campus.

Alexie’s 2007 book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, was named the South Dakota State University fall 2012 common read earlier this spring. The South Dakota Humanities Council and SDSU’s Honors College are partnering to sponsor Alexie’s visit.

You’ll want to scan through the complete list of authors to get the full effect of the talent that will be showcased in downtown Sioux Falls from September 28-30. As you’ll see, the list stretches from award-winning historians and genre writers to top names in children/young adult literature.

Special events include workshops, film screenings, luncheons, tea parties, and even a symphonic performance!

Author Sherman Alexie will make a special appearance at an off-site kickoff event for the 2012 Festival of Books.

Over the past 10 years, the SD Festival of Books has become the premier literary event in our Midwest region, and because of the support of individuals like you, we’ve been able to continue to host dynamic new and emerging authors at free events in downtown Sioux Falls.
