This Spotlight focuses on Daniel Durant, a multi-talented American Sign Language (ASL) actor whose impressive performance in Spring Awakening with Deaf West Theatre took him all the way to Broadway! As a Deaf actor who performs using ASL, how is he keeping creative while waiting to get back onstage?

This is not just a raunchy peek into bedrooms of the teens. It is a sober look into the hearts and minds of these kids on the cusp of adulthood as they navigate their turbulent lives. It is a moving, heartfelt story that reaches beyond the centuries.

Duncan Sheik the Grammy and Tony Award-winning artist made his Cafe Carlyle debut last night and BroadwayWorld was there. Sheik launched his career in 1996 with his Grammy nominated self-titled debut album. Sheik is the composer for the critically acclaimed musical Spring Awakening, which went on to win eight Tony Awards in 2007, including awards for Best Orchestrations and Best Original Score. The album earned Sheik a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

The Studio Theatre presents SPRING AWAKENING, June 8 - 25, 2017. The musical was written by Duncan Sheik (music) and Steven Sater (book and lyrics) based on the German Play by the same name by Frank Wedekind. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the company in character below!

The Dramatists Guild Fund just welcomed a slew of stars for their 2015 Gala, GREAT WRITERS THANK THEIR LUCKY STARS, which was hosted by musician and Emmy-nominated composer, Darren Criss. Directed by Leigh Silverman (Violet, The Wild Party, Chinglish) with Music Direction by Charlie Rosen, the event featured award-winning playwrights, lyricists and composers introducing the stars who brought their work to life on stage, including Stephen Schwartz, Kirsten Childs, Gretchen Cryer & Nancy Ford, Sheldon Harnick, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, Laurence O'Keefe & Nell Benjamin, Steven Sater and Benjamin Scheuer.

SPRING AWAKENING closes out The Barn Stage Company's 2015 Summer Series. After working on the national tour of MURDER FOR TWO and Disney's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, J. Scott Lapp returns to The Barn Stage Company directing this Tony Award-winning musical sensation. The Barn Stage Company's engagement began performances on September 17 and will run through September 27, 2015, in the newly renovated Truax Building in Old Town Temecula. PEDRO PAN, a new bi-lingual children's musical, explores the struggles of Pedro, a young boy, sent to the US by his parents to escape the growing dangers of revolutionary Havana. Last night Barrington Stage Company presented the World Premiere of Engagements by Lucy Teitler and BroadwayWorld was there. Directed by Louisa Proske (BSC debut), Engagements stars (in their BSC debuts) Amanda Quaid (Irish Rep's The Weir) as Lauren, Kate Loprest (First Date) as Allison, Adam Gerber (George Street Playhouse The Whipping Man) as Ryan, Phoebe Strole (Spring Awakening) as Catherine, and Robert David Grant (Yale Rep Hamlet) as Mark.

Deaf West's acclaimed production of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's Spring Awakening, directed by Michael Arden and choreographed by Spencer Liff, just began rehearsals for its Broadway transfer. The Brooks Atkinson Theatre box office will open next Monday, August 17. The show began previews June 24 and opens tonight, July 2nd, running through August 16, 2015. The original musical is written by Iris Rainer Dart and Thom Thomas, with music by David Austin and lyrics by Iris Rainer Dart.
