Presented as part of OSU's partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company's "Stand Up for Shakespeare" initiative which advocates "Doing Shakespeare on Your Feet; Seeing it Live; and Starting it Earlier," this 60-minute, abridged version of A Midsummer Night's Dream is intended to introduce young audiences to the joys of Shakespeare and his language. Directed by Robin Post, Shakespeare's story is a lighthearted comedy of love, magic, and mayhem that follows the adventures of two young couples, a band of mischievous fairies, and a bumbling troupe of actors. Both Junior & Senior COMPANY, KVPAC's signature theatre club for advanced and experienced students, were offered the opportunity to attend a very special workshop for free at the beginning of 2009. On January 10th, Main Street Theatre Instructor, Alan Hutton, came to KVPAC to teach STAGE COMBAT. Stage combat is a specialized technique in theatre designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. It is employed in live stage plays as well as operatic and ballet productions. (more...)
