BWW Interviews: Trista Dollison in SISTER ACT: Singing with Great Joy!BWW Interviews: Trista Dollison in SISTER ACT: Singing with Great Joy!
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Jun 29, 2015

Every night for the next three weeks Trista Dollison dons a nun's habit and lights up the stage of Brunswick's Maine State Music Theatre with her sassy, soulful, exuberant portrayal of Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act - the cabaret singer who teaches the joy of music to a sleepy convent of Philadelphia nuns. It's a part she seems born to play and one which reflects her overall love of singing. 'It's a great role, hands down!' she enthuses in the last days of rehearsal before the June 25th opening. 'I had seen the show on Broadway twice and auditioned more than twice, so I am delighted to be here doing it now. It is one of those shows that rides on your back. She has such great songs and is in every scene. She is such a fierce and fabulous character! I love the fact that she starts off in a selfish world and evolves into being the hope for these sisters, and the sisters become the hope for her. The journey within the show is so beautiful: she realizes she is helping the nuns, and they realize they are helping her. She awakens something that is lost in the convent - a passion and joy.' Linda Roth returns for another memorable cabaret. Linda's appearances in Follies, Sunset Boulevard, The Great One and as the spirited Trudy in last year's Christmas at Lazarus, make her a favorite performer at Short North Stage. We are delighted to welcome her back as she takes her audience through an evening of some of her most embarrassing moments. Maybe This Time she can redeem herself! BWW Review: Inventive Staging and Superb Acting Highlight Odyssey Theatre's OEDIPUS MACHINABWW Review: Inventive Staging and Superb Acting Highlight Odyssey Theatre's OEDIPUS MACHINA
by Shari Barrett - Jun 27, 2015

The wondrous production at the Odyssey Theater begins the moment you walk into the misty other-worldly atmospheric set designed by Keith Mitchell which, along with the dome and water well, has the blind soothsayer Tiresias perched in a woven swing hanging just above the entrance. A large, clear glass orb hangs above the front row with an image of an ancient warrior, soon identified as slain King Laius, within it. The mood is set for a theatrical experience unlike anything you have seen before when it comes to Greek Tragedy! (more...)

by Amanda Finn - Jun 27, 2015

One little swish of her tail and they were smitten. The girls who grew up admiring Ariel and humming her tunes can now have the same giddy feeling they used to get when that well-worn VHS slid into the machine. With the incomparable success of The Lion King, Disney set out to create its fair share of Broadway blockbusters. The Little Mermaid had a short lived run on the Great White Way, but that hasn't stopped other companies from having their go at a show with a lot to give. (more...)
