Rehearsals are underway for the Broadway premiere of A BRONX TALE THE MUSICAL, the new musical featuring a book by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, music by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Alan Menken, and lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Oscar and Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater, co-directed by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony nominee Sergio Trujillo. A BRONX TALE THE MUSICAL begins previews Thursday, November 3 and open Thursday, December 1 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). On Sunday afternoon, I had the pleasure of attending my school's Society of the Arts induction ceremony. It honors women who have graduated from our school and gone on to Broadway or have successful jobs in the Arts. I enjoyed hearing stories of past productions at my high school that took place on the stage that I am performing on today. After the ceremony, I had the pleasure of asking three of the honorees, all past theatre students, one question: What would you tell your high school theatre self now after achieving your goals? Goodman Theatre begins the new year with a new music-and-movement-filled play: Another Word for Beauty, a world premiere by Academy Award nominee Jose Rivera(The Motorcycle Diaries) inspired by an annual beauty pageant at El Buen Pastor womens prison in Colombia. Directed by Steve Cosson and featuring seven original songs by Grammy Award winner Hector Buitrago, the show was developed through a co-commission between the Goodman and Cosson's New York-based theater company The Civilians.  (more...)

The new Broadway revival of THE COLOR PURPLE opened just last week, December 10, at theBernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W 45th Street). Grammy, Academy Award, and Golden Globe award winner Jennifer Hudson makes her Broadway debut opposite Cynthia Erivo, the breakout star of John Doyle's acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory production, and Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks, in the highly anticipated production of The Color Purple. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the whole evening, starting with the sacred Gypsy Robe ceremony.
