Al Hirschfeld immortalized celebrities, politicians, Broadway productions, films, television shows and beyond with his iconic linear drawings for nine decades, establishing himself as one of the most important contemporary portrait artists. Over a decade since the legendary artist drew his final line drawing, he continues to inspire.  This spring, Hirschfeld will be celebrated with the publication of a new book and a major exhibition at the New-York Historical Society.  Just last night the New-York Historical Society celebrated the launch of The Hirschfeld Century: The Art of Al Hirschfeld. the first major retrospective of Hirschfeld. Last night (May 19), The Alliance for Women in Media, presented the 40th Anniversary of The Gracies Awards to a packed house at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the gala, which also celebrated the organization's 40 years of achievements. In honor of that milestone, The Gracies Commemorative Awards were handed out on stage to honorees in recognition of their stellar accomplishments over the years. Guests were greeted by the musical talents of DJ Amy Pham. During the Commemorative Awards ceremony, music icon Linda Perry performed a striped down version of 'What's Up,' and a moving rendition of Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful.' Scroll down for photos! The Women's Division of Albert Einstein College of Medicine hosted its 61st Annual Spirit of Achievement Luncheon on Tuesday, May 19th at the Rainbow Room, honoring Candice Bergen, Renee Fleming and Einstein faculty members Daphne T. Hsu, M.D., and Robert H. Pass, M.D. Both are leading pediatric heart specialists at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore, the pediatric division of Einstein's University hospital. The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. last night honored Diane von Furstenberg, Patti LuPone, and Henry Louis Gates, Jr. at its "Gala in the Great Hall" held at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Ms. von Furstenberg received the B.C. Forbes Peopling of America® Award, and Ms. LuPone and Mr. Gates received the Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards.
