'On Golden Pond' is a 1979 play by Ernest Thompson. The plot focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiance Bill Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage. That special place was the inspiration for On Golden Pond, his extraordinarily popular, bittersweet play about love and aging, recrimination and reconciliation. Since its Broadway premiere in 1979, the play has been seen in more than 40 countries, and performed in some 30 languages. On Golden Pond opens at Palm Beach Dramaworks onFebruary 2 and continues through February 25, with specially priced previews on January 31 and February 1.

Yesterday, May 9, The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center presented its annual Monte Cristo Award to legendary Broadway and screen actor James Earl Jones, in recognition of his monumental achievements and contributions to the American and international theater community.
