Based on the Academy Award-winning screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard, Shakespeare in Love has been adapted for the stage by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot). Featuring a company of 30 actors and musicians, this new play will be directed by Declan Donnellan and designed by Nick Ormerod, the driving force behind the world-renowned theatre company, Cheek by Jowl. Shakespeare in Love will be produced by Disney and Sonia Friedman Productions.

Promising young playwright Will Shakespeare is tormented by writer's block until he finds his muse in the form of passionate noblewoman, Viola De Lesseps. Their forbidden love draws many others, including Queen Elizabeth, into the drama and inspires Will to write the greatest love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet.

This sweeping romantic comedy will transport you back to Shakespeare's London, teeming with vibrant colours, characters, music and life. Oh, and there's a bit with a dog!

Orlando James, Eve Ponsonby & More Join Cast of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE

The critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare in Love will begin rehearsals with a new cast on 8 December, taking over at the Noel Coward Theatre from 12 January 2015. The production, which has one of the biggest ever casts for a play in the West End, has twice extended its run due to popular demand and is now booking until April 2015.

Adapted from the Academy-Award winning 1998 film, Shakespeare in Love tells the imaginary story of how a young William Shakespeare was inspired to write the greatest love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet. In addition to transporting audiences to Elizabethan London and the famous Rose Theatre, the story also brings to life real-life historic and literary figures including Queen Elizabeth, Christopher Marlowe, Richard Burbage and Edmund Tilney.

The critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare in Love announced today that it has extended its booking period to 10 January 2015. The production is extending its run due to popular demand, releasing almost 76,000 extra tickets. Tickets will go on sale to the general public from 1 September.
