For the first time since 2002, the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) presents the award-winning Trinity Irish Dance Company (TIDC) on October 19 at 8 p.m. at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. This globally renowned company will kick off its season in New Orleans with a new show that will then tour the world. Since its founding in 1990 by visionary choreographer and director Mark Howard, TIDC has been hailed as the birthplace of the progressive Irish dance movement, blending the virtuosity and rapid-fire rhythms of traditional Irish dance with contemporary American innovations that paved the way for commercial productions like Riverdance. Irish Arts Center and Baryshnikov Arts Center join forces again to present the U.S. premiere of Colin Dunne's Concert, in which he takes on the widely influential Irish fiddle player Tommie Potts' iconic—and notoriously choreographically challenging—1972 album The Liffey Banks, armed with an LP, tape recorder, portable speakers, and sheets of flooring. Choreographed and performed by Dunne, and created in collaboration with director Sinéad Rushe and composer and sound designer Mel Mercier, Concert, which The Irish Times, in a five-star review, described as “warm, funny, respectful, and irreverent,” comes to Baryshnikov Arts Center November 14-16.

This year, a living legend of musical theatre turns 90: Lyricist-bookwriter Tom Jones (who also, under a stage name) appeared in the original company of his most famous and wildly successful record-breaking musical, The Fantasticks. His collaborator, composer Harvey Schmidt, just recently passed away. The production's record-breaking run closed, on January 13, 2002, after 17,162 performances. Their shows also include 110 in the Shade, I Do! I Do!, Philemon, Celebration and many more. And celebration is what it's about when Broadway veterans Carole Demas, who originated the role of Sandy in Grease, and Sarah Rice, who originated the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd, return to celebrate Jones & Schmidt. Demas and Rice have based the show on their 50 years of work and personal relationships with Tom and Harvey. With very special guest Broadway's Hal Robinson who is also a Fantasticks alumni.

The northeast Florida premiere of William Finn and James Lapine's A NEW BRAIN (1998) opens April 21st at The 5 & Dime's new, permanent space off East Adams Street in Jacksonville's core. A NEW BRAIN carries risks, much akin to that of the lead character's brain condition, but Josh Waller's soaring voice as Gordon Schwinn complemented by the fluid sound of a strong ensemble should top your to-do list next week.

Riverdance- the Anniversary Tour returns to the USA from January to June 2017. J.L. Williams rejoins the ongoing 20th Anniversary tour and will be featured for the first time as the "Baritone Soloist" who sings "Freedom/Heal Their Hearts" as well as reprising his role as one of two African American tap dancers with Tyler Knowlin in the showstopping number "Trading Taps". Williams made his Riverdance debut back in the fall of 2015 in Canada. He also played the northwest of America and a limited engagement in Dublin this past summer.
