The 2022/2023 Season marks Lyric Stage's 5th Season at the historic Majestic Theatre, located in downtown Dallas, and features five musicals by some of the most popular, award-winning, and cult-classic pop/rock composers Broadway has to offer, including Elton John, Phil Collins, ABBA, The Electric Light Orchestra (“ELO”), and Richard O'Brien. 

The Hangar Theatre has announced the first ever Hangar Flight Test, a series of concert stagings of original musicals in development.  The 2022 series will consist of two workshop productions which Hangar audiences will be among the first to experience.  Writers and artistic teams will invite audiences to give feedback and become part of the development process as they prepare their scripts and scores for full scale production.

In our new series, 'Where Are They Now?' we're taking a look back at some of our favorite original Broadway casts, and catching up with their careers! Next up, the original cast of Hairspray!

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

The Colorado Theatre Guild's 14th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Lone Tree Arts Center, located at 10075 Commons St. Lone Tree, CO 80124. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and the awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a catered reception at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Darius de Haas (Shuffle Along, Rent, Children of Eden) is looking very animated lately, especially as presented in a new cartoonified recording session video of "Real Thing," released today, Friday, March 29, as a single from the album "All the Possibilities: Broadway Sings Wartofsky" on Yellow Sound Label.

With lead vocals by a dozen Broadway stars, Yellow Sound Label has announced the release of the debut album of eleven original songs by award-winning songwriter and Berklee College of Music Professor Michael Wartofsky, in digital, streaming and physical formats, today, Friday, January 4.

Villanova Theatre presents a staged reading of The Behavior of Light, written and directed by Broadway playwright and Hollywood screenwriter, Douglas Carter Beane. Perhaps best known for his screenplay To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar as well as his award-winning work on musicals Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Sister Act, Xanadu and Lysistrata Jones, Beane is playwright-in-residence at Villanova University this spring. The acclaimed writer has been working alongside undergraduate and graduate students on a new play development process culminating in a public reading April 27-29, 2018. The Behavior of Light is sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences far and wide.

The Tony Award nominated producer Triptyk Studios (An American in Paris; Oh, Hello; You're Welcome America) will present Unrigged Live!, a variety show event celebrating the courage of progressive political activism and the fight to 'unrig the system' hosted by Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), Emmy Award nominee Tig Notaro ('One Mississippi,' 'Transparent,' 'In a World,' Off Broadway's #nastywomen), Nikki Glaser (Trainwreck), National Medal of Arts recipients, The Preservation Hall All-Stars, former Ohio Senator and President of Our Revolution, Nina Turner and many more on Saturday, February 3.

Stages Repertory Theatre presents Gregg Coffin's Five Course Love, a delicious twist on the tried-and-true dinner date showcasing three actors playing a host of over-the-top characters whose hearts are hungry for love. Spotlighting five dates in five different restaurants, the musical parody pokes gentle fun at an array of cultural traditions and musical styles, serving up a fast-paced feast of clever lyrics, catchy tunes and lots of laughs. Five Course Love is directed by Mitchell Greco, Artistic Associate for Stages, whose directing credits include The Honky Tonk Angels series, Xanadu, Big Fish, and co-directing Shear Madness.

Tony Award nominees Carolee Carmello (Parade, Scandalous), Mary Testa (Xanadu, 42nd Street, On the Town), Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde, Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark), with Beth Malone (Fun Home) and Jill Paice (An American in Paris), starred in Town Hall's Broadway by the Year Series last night, February 27, in 'The Broadway Musicals of the 1920s.'
