“Those Were the Days” when we were “Wishin’ and Hopin’” to hear the infectious and soulful ballads that made household names of Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Lulu. But the time has come when you don’t have to go “Downtown” or “Round Every Corner” because “I Know a Place” where you can hear the greatest hits from the 1960s. So “Don’t Sleep in the Subway” and hurry to the Marriott Theatre. Come hear the soundtrack of your life presented like never before. It will make you want to jump out of your seat and “SHOUT!”

Review: MR. PARKER at Dezart Performs
by Kay Kudukis - Apr 16, 2024

Death tends to affect those who remain differently. Some take time to grieve, then march boldly forward, while others live in purgatory, their grief so overwhelming they only function within the pain of their loss. Mr. Parker by Michael McKeever is very much about just that - as was Daniel’s Husband, but while Daniel’s Husband left us with tears and broken hearts, Mr. Parker gives us hope for life after loss, as well as a lot of laughs which is a great analgesic when exploring deep emotions.

Review: Heartbeat's Bio-Version EUGENE ONEGIN Dazzles under Director/Designer Dustin Wills
by Richard Sasanow - Apr 7, 2024

If you cross the traditional EUGENE ONEGIN by Tchaikovsky (great even when overfilled with drama and, yes, music music music, with Konstantin Shilovsky’s co-libretto) with a touch of Ken Russell’s 1971 “The Music Lovers” (the overwrought bio-pic of Tchaikovsky with Richard Chamberlin and Glenda Jackson as his patron and wife that took the composer out of the closet for anyone who didn’t know he was there), and you might have an idea of what Heartbeat Opera’s version of the opera-cum-composer’s tale is like.

Review: WICKED at Orpheum Theatre Memphis
by AniKatrina Fageol - Apr 5, 2024

I'll start my review by saying Wicked is my favorite musical of all time. I have seen it 10 times now, all in different cities, and each time left the theatre with tears in my eyes and my heart feeling a little lighter. This is the greatest example of how magical theatre can be, in my opinion. And my hopes for a beautiful production for my 10th viewing were not dashed in the slightest-- Olivia Valli and Celia Hottenstein bewitch the audience from their first moments on stage.
