Segerstrom Center to Host Third Year of Disney Musicals in Schools

Segerstrom Center for the Arts will take its Disney Musicals in Schools program to four recently selected Title I public elementary schools during the 2016 - 2017 school year in the third year of the program. The schools are Las Positas Elementary (La Habra), Riverdale Elementary (Garden Grove), Mattie Lou Maxwell Elementary (Anaheim) and Santiago Elementary (Santa Ana). The 17-week musical theater residency begins in the fall and culminates with a 30-minute Disney KIDS musical to be performed by students at each school site. On March 21, 2017, Segerstrom Center will host a Student Share Celebration, when each school will have the extraordinary opportunity to perform a selection from their show in the Rene?e and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall for an audience of fellow students, family members and friends. MCCC's Kelsey Theatre Announces 2016-17 Season

Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre has announced its upcoming season and it's a blockbuster by any measure - packed with Broadway hits, family favorites, special holiday performances, and shows for the younger set. Says M. Kitty Getlik, Kelsey's Artistic Director, 'As the college celebrates its 50th anniversary, we have created a lineup worthy of that milestone.' She notes the major Broadway shows on this year's schedule including 'Miss Saigon,' Lin Manuel-Miranda's 'In the Heights,' 'Billy Elliot, The Musical,' and Disney's 'A Little Mermaid.' Rounding out the schedule are comedies, dance and the Kelsey Kids Series, offering six shows for the younger set. PlayFest 2017, the college's - and the state's - very first new play festival for current and former community college students takes place in March. (more...)

Elementary Schools Selected for Disney Musicals in Schools Program with Dr. Phillips

Dr. Phillips Center Florida Hospital School of the Arts¬†announces the four local area elementary schools that have been selected to participate in the inaugural¬†Disney Musicals in Schools¬†program. Participating in the 2016 ¬Ė 2017 school year are¬†Bonneville Elementary¬†(Orange County),¬†Winegard Elementary¬†(Orange County),¬†Lake Orienta Elementary¬†(Seminole County) and¬†Kissimmee Elementary¬†(Osceola County). At an Orientation event in January 2017, these schools will select the a Disney musical of their choice from the ¬ďKIDS¬Ē licensing collection. Comprising works by two luminaries of twentieth century literature, a giant of European Theatre and one of the great English novelists, the season kicks off with Winnie the Pooh creator, A A Milne's 1921 theatrical work The Dover Road, which runs from September 6 to October 1 and is directed by Nichola McAuliffe. The Dover Road, which was first performed in 1921, is a light- hearted comedy set in a mysterious house just off the Dover Road, inhabited by the enigmatic Mr Latimer.
