NorthEast Shakespeare Combines Classics During Their New Double BIll Season

For its sixth season, the NorthEast Shakespeare Ensemble will present Shakespeare's highly popular play, Comedy of Errors, in repertory with Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, at the Lebanon Opera House from June 18 through July 4. With its first 'double bill' season, NESE fulfills a long-standing artistic goal to bring Shakespeare and the best of the classics to our region each summer. (more...)

BWW Reviews: CATCO Paints the Town RED With Local Premiere of the Tony-Award Winning Play by John Logan

The Columbus premiere of John Logan's, 'Red' fell on Valentine's Day, but the 2010 Tony Award winning play's only lover's obsession is that of artist Mark Rothko's relationship with his own art. The intensely intellectual two-man play stars Kevin McClatchy as the mid 20th Century painter, and Tim Simeone as Ken, his recently hired assistant. 'Red' details the two year span of Rothko's career in which he was working on a commissioned series of paintings for the new Four Seasons Restaurant in the posh Park AvenueSeagramBuilding. 'What do you see?' begins Rothko, and as such, the audience gets an extraordinary opportunity to see an artist seeing his own work, a perspective that proves entrancing, profound, and deeply heart-wrenching. Met Museum Announces The Path of Nature: French Paintings from the Wheelock Whitney Collection, 17851850

Over the last 40 years, one of the most significant developments in the study of 19th-century European paintings has been a growing appreciation of the importance of plein-air (outdoor) oil sketches to the Realist and Impressionist landscape aesthetic. In 2003 The Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired from New York connoisseur Wheelock Whitney a comprehensive survey of sketches painted between 1785 and 1850 by many of the most notable artists of the French school who worked in this medium. The Path of Nature: French Paintings from the Wheelock Whitney Collection, 1785-1850 will be held on the tenth anniversary of this major acquisition. (more...)
