Verizon Reaches Agreement To Acquire Vodafone's 45 Percent Interest In Verizon Wireless For $130 Billion

Verizon today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with Vodafone Group Plc (London, VOD) to acquire Vodafone's U.S. group with the principal asset of 45 percent of Verizon Wireless for $130 billion, consisting primarily of cash and stock. Verizon expects the transaction at close to be immediately accretive to the company's EPS (earnings per share) by approximately 10 percent, without any one-time adjustments. (more...)

In Italy, theaters are under real estate pressure; their precious locations and spacious buildings are eagerly sought by developers who try to convert valued cultural assets into commercial buildings.  This clash of artistic idealism and commercial opportunism has been dramatized by Italian playwright Alberto Bassetti in 'Dealers of Souls,' a new play whose American premiere will be presented November 12 to 29 by Theater for the New City in collaboration with Kairos Italy Theatre.  It's a supernatural drama in which two men are negotiating the sale of an old theater. The buyer, a clearly corrupt theater entrepreneur, promises to restore it but actually, he intends to turn it into a supermarket. Can his intrigues be stymied by a strange actress who squats in the building, who seems to be part hobo and part phantom of the theater?  Can she save the day? (more...)

Redmoon Theatre Announces Neighborhood Partners for Great Chicago Fire Festival

Redmoon Founder and Executive Artistic Director Jim Lasko and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events today announce the 15 neighborhoods that will serve as official neighborhood partners for the Great Chicago Fire Festival, hosting Community Engagement Summer Celebrations leading up to the Festival culmination, a performance and pyrotechnic spectacle on the main branch of the Chicago River, October 4. The 15 city neighborhoods, anchored by 35 different civic and cultural organizations, will partner with Redmoon to present free, public events and art activities from June through September. This announcement follows a citywide request for proposals from community-based organizations issued by Redmoon last November. The 15 official Great Chicago Fire Festival neighborhoods are Albany Park, Austin, Avondale, Bronzeville, Englewood, Humboldt Park, Little Village, North Lawndale, Old Town, Pilsen, Roseland, South Chicago, South Shore, Uptown and Woodlawn. Theatre for Young America is presenting a new collection of "three" stories, TRIPLE PLAY TWO!, on tour this spring to area schools and daycare centers, as well as at the Wonderscope Children's Museum, 5700 King St., Shawnee, KS. The early childhood play will be on tour from February 19 thru May, 2015. TRIPLE PLAY TWO! is a live musical show geared for the youngest theatre-goers aged 2 and up. TRIPLE PLAY ONE, which includes stories of The Three Bears, The Three Pigs and The Little Kittens, has been popular with early childhood programs since 2007. It is also still available for touring.
