BWW Reviews: Independent Film BILLY SHAKESPEARE Highlights the Writer's Dilemma
by Ellen Dostal - Sep 8, 2014

BILLY SHAKESPEARE is a spicy little independent film by Deborah Voorhees that imagines what might happen if William Shakespeare tried to make it as a writer in today's Hollywood rather than Elizabethan England. Quirky characters, compromising situations, and the kind of deadpan humor made famous in Waiting For Guffman collide with hilarious moments of camp to create a madcap world in which young Billy just can't get a break. BWW Recap: The Great HOUDINI and the Great Beyond - Part II
by Meg Wood - Sep 3, 2014

When we last saw our hero, Harry Houdini was trapped under the ice of the Mississippi River, a death-defying Trick gone a bit off. As Part II of The History Channel's miniseries HOUDINI begins, he's still trapped and it's looking bad. Then, he sees what appears to be a mermaid with his mother's face. This vision leads him to safety. In this manner, the show's tone and purpose shifts. We have left the saga of a man compelled by his need to escape and laugh in the face of death. On we go to the story of a man haunted by loss, the afterlife and the supernatural. (more...)

BWW Preview: New Beginnings Await in New Season of MODERN FAMILY
by Matt Smith - Sep 21, 2014

In last season's finale (The Wedding, Part 2 aired May 21, 2014), Pepper (Nathan Lane) orchestrated a change of wedding venues, while Jay and Gloria mend the broken relationship between Merle and Barb. Meanwhile, Phil tried to incorporate a magic Trick into his new role in the wedding, while Luke and Manny acted like an old married couple, much to Alex's delight. Looking at events that occurred in the season finale that might act as a jumping off point when the Emmy-winner kicks off its sixth season next month, Haley spends the episode contemplating her true feelings for Andy (Adam DeVine) the manny (whose feelings for her seem to be reciprocated, as he's seen waiting in the taxi outside the wedding venue), and of course, Mitch & Cam are officially hitched. BWW Recap: HOUDINI You Think You Are?
by Meg Wood - Sep 2, 2014

Harry Houdini – America's premier Escape Artist, Showman extraordinaire, potentially a template for that most American of literary creations, the Superhero, and, if you believe the premise of the current miniseries on The History Channel, a person psychologically addicted to running away from his own person and reality. HOUDINI, the two-parter that began Monday night and concludes on Tuesday on the History Channel, is based on a psychiatrist's biography of the great performer, which was subtitled “A Mind in Chains.” However, from the show and from its star Adrien Brody's, portrayal, he was less a man in chains than a man on the run.
