by BWW News Desk - Oct 4, 2016

Winner of 12 Tony Awards, 8 Academy Awards and 7 BAFTA Awards, CABARET wows audiences and critics alike time and time again sky-rocketing the careers its starts.  Fifty years ago in 1966 the original Broadway production made a household name of Joel Grey who shook audiences as The Emcee.  Two years later an unassuming Judi Dench stole the show as Sally Bowles on London's West End.  Arguably the most iconic movie musical of all time made a star of Liza Minnelli when she brought Sally Bowles to the silver screen directed by Bob Fosse. West End's MATILDA Celebrates Fifth Birthday
by Marianka Swain - Nov 8, 2016

Last week, Matilda the Musical - that soaring celebration of storytelling - marked its fifth year in the West End. Appropriately enough, the show begins with a birthday party in the marvellously caustic "Miracle" (over 41,000 balloons have been used since the show opened at the Cambridge Theatre), and the audience was invited to join the party, treated to birthday cupcakes in the interval. No word on whether Bruce Bogtrotter made a play for them first… (more...)

BWW Interview: Tony Award Nominee Tim Minchin Gears Up for The New York Comedy Festival and GROUNDHOG DAY!
by Alexa Criscitiello - Nov 2, 2016

Tim Minchin will not be put in a box. Though the composer is best known for his Tony-nominated score for the stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'Matilda' as well as a series of hugely successful symphonic comedy tours, the man himself is living, breathing proof of the term, 'Jack of all trades.' Outside of his comedic and theatrical pursuits, Tim has also assumed the titles of actor, director, poet, and writer. (more...)

BWW Review: Husband-Wife Duo Andy Karl and Orfeh Bring Unapologetic Holiday Fun to Feinstein's/54 Below in LEGALLY BOUND
by Casey Mink - Dec 23, 2016

Perhaps you have attended a wedding and, despite repeated refusal, you are forced by your date or young family member to get up on the dance floor. You moan and groan and detest at the cloying silliness that is boogying to some horn-heavy interpretations of Top 100 hits or a once-inescapable Whitney Houston number. However, when you do ultimately decide to embrace this strange human ritual (perhaps the urge comes after your fourth drink or a sugar rush from wedding cake), you realize there is actually quite a bit of admittedly silly fun to be mined from singing along to the staple “Macarena.” That long-winded analogy could, in some ways, describe the joint performance of husband and wife power couple Andy Karl and Orfeh, in their debut engagement at Feinstein's/54 Below, which began December 8.
