BWW Review: Sweet Yet Powerful WINTER'S TALE from Seattle Shakes
by Jay Irwin - Sep 12, 2016

There are some productions of Shakespeare which need all the flashy costumes and sets and transplanting to non-traditional times and places in order to make the show shine. And then there are productions like the outstanding production of "The Winter's Tale" currently being offered from Seattle Shakespeare Company where they've assembled such a talented cast and crew, innately fluent with the meaning of the show, who only require a few chairs and platforms and where the flash would just get in the way. It's those shows that remind us why we love theater when a group of actors can mesmerize us with their words. (more...)

Inspired in part by the album Jean Ritchie & Doc Watson at Folk City and heavily flavored with traditional mountain and American folk music performed by the cast, the play will celebrate the culture and the music of Appalachia, a region with strong cultural, musical and linguistic ties to Shakespeare's England, with a tragedy and joy that is uniquely and entertainingly American. by BWW News Desk - Aug 2, 2016

4th Wall Theatre Company (formerly Stark Naked Theatre Company) opens its 2016-2017 season on September 9th  with Sam Shepard's Tony-nominated masterpiece, True West-a modern American classic exploring themes of sibling rivalry, art as commerce, and what it means to 'be a man.' Like a runaway train, this dark comedy about two brothers and their mutual resentment takes audiences on a thrill ride into the dark side of the human psyche, with laughs and unexpected moments of revelation along the way.  In its world premiere, the San Francisco Chronicle noted that True West is "clear, funny, naturalistic. It's also opaque, terrifying, surrealistic.  If that sounds contradictory, you're on to one aspect of Shepard's winning genius-the ability to make you think your watching one thing while at the same time he's presenting another."
