BWW Blog: Meet Jennifer Kronenberg of Miami City BalletBWW Blog: Meet Jennifer Kronenberg of Miami City Ballet
by Guest Blogger: Jennifer Kronenberg - Oct 13, 2015

In many ways it seems so surreal that Miami City Ballet is already embarking on its 30th Anniversary Season. Having been a part of the company for 21 of those seasons, it seems like I simply blinked and suddenly arrived at this point in time.  When I really stop to think about it though, and reflect back on all of those years, I have seen the company grow, change and evolve tremendously. What is most amazing to me is the one thing in particular that has been an unwavering constant - the dancers' incredible spirit. There is no disguising how passionate each one of is, and has always been, about what we do. It is clear how collectively appreciative we are to work alongside one another, and grateful for the opportunity to share our passion with the audience. But performing, of course, is our dessert. First comes the process - the hearty meal that nourishes our souls each and every day. Whether we are tackling a company premiere, or revisiting a work we have done a dozen times, we approach it with the same intense commitment. This season is a bouquet of so many exciting ballets, and it is hard to imagine that only eight weeks into our season, as our opening night nears, we have already immersed ourselves deeply into practically all of them.  (more...)

It was 25 years ago when South Coast Repertory first staged the World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley's dark comedy ABUNDANCE. Fast forward to 2015, and Orange County's Tony Award-winning regional theater saw it fitting to once again revisit the property in a brand new production now viewed through 21st Century eyes, that has been beautifully directed by SCR Founding Artistic Director Martin Benson. The play continues performances in Costa Mesa through November 15. (more...)

BWW Review: BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL A Sight (and Sound) to BeholdBWW Review: BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL A Sight (and Sound) to Behold
by Rachel Weinberg - Dec 7, 2015

The Chicago engagement of the first national tour of BEAUTIFUL--THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL rightfully earns the show's title. This entertaining and emotional production delivers tons of heart and talent at the Oriental Theatre. This engagement also signals the homecoming for lead Abby Mueller in the role of Carole King. Mueller grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and she has big shoes to fill in this role--her younger sister, Jessie, won the 2014 Tony Award for originating the same role on Broadway. There's no cause for concern, though, as Mueller, and the rest of the touring production's cast, deliver big-time. As King, Mueller provides the emotional and musical center of this production--and it is sheer pleasure to listen to her dive into some of the singer-songwriter's greatest hits. (more...)
