Hi there! I'm Eric Jackson and I'm one of the handful of performers that has had the pleasure of being a part of Transcendence Theatre in Sonoma every summer since their first concert in 2011.  My path has taken me from Rochester, Michigan to The University of Michigan and then to NYC for the past 15 years.  But now I'm on a new path.  I accepted the position of Executive Assistant to the Artistic Director here at Transcendence and just recently moved to Wine Country to start a whole new chapter of my life!  On top of that, I am Associate Directing the 1st Concert, Co-Directing the 2nd Concert, and performing in all 4!  It's going to be a busy summer,     but it will all be worth it.  And as you follow this blog, hopefully you will understand the reason why I keep coming back and why I've decided to stay. WALNUT CREEK, CA (July 7, 2015) – The California Symphony presents the beloved classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and performs the complete, live orchestral accompaniment as the movie is shown on a giant screen at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, Friday, August 21 at 8:30 pm. Conductor Sarah Hicks leads the orchestra in some of the best-loved movie songs and music of all time, including Harold Arlen and E.Y. “Yip” Harburg's “Over The Rainbow,” “We're Off to See the Wizard,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead,” “The Merry Old Land of Oz,” and many more, as well as the underscore by composer Herbert Stothart. Judy Garland and the other actors' original vocal performances are preserved and enhanced, so they can be fully heard and enjoyed as the orchestra plays. The film's restored images are accompanied by the orchestra playing entirely new transcriptions of Harold Arlen's brilliant lost scores. The production is by Emmy Award-winning producer John Goberman (Live from Lincoln Center). Folklore tells us The Flying Dutchman is a legendary ghost ship that can never make port and is doomed to sail the oceans forever. Amiri Baraka's thought-provoking play DUTCHMAN, directed with a sure hand by Levy Lee Simon at the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica, takes this concept into 1964 when Lula, a young white woman waiting on a New York subway platform, spots Clay, a black businessman, through the passing train's window and decides to join him for no other reason than to entice him to succumb to her physical charms. On Sunday July 12 the Pink Lady Jackie Goldberg and her producer partners Barbara Van Orden and Amanda Blake Secola presented their unique Senior Star Search competition for the very first year 2015 to a sold out crowd at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Barnsdall Park, Hollywood. It was such a resounding success, a real love affair with the public, that hopefully the event will be an annual occurrence. Seniors perform exceedingly well, as well as anyone at any age. Age has nothing to do with talent and drive, a fact which was assuredly proved during the course of this show. All contestants ranged in age from 55 and up with the oldest contestant Nick Pietroforte, age 86. Accompanist for the program was maestro par excellence Ron Snyder. (more...)

by Jay Irwin - Jul 13, 2015

Dreams are there for our brains to work things out when we can't and the more incapacitated we are the weirder those dreams become. I mean Dorothy dreamt about flying monkeys. Well in "Wizzer Pizzer: Getting Over The Rainbow", currently from Theatre22 as part of their Pride Series, the dream is just the latest in an attempt to tell someone else's message utilizing a trip to Oz. And while I loathe someone working out their therapy on stage, Amy Wheeler's play comes across as more what she felt would have been the resulting mindset from therapy without actually going through it and that's even worse as it's cliche joke after cliche joke ultimately amounting to no real resolution or message. Loretta Wade Releases 5th Novel WHERE THE WILLOWS WEEPLoretta Wade Releases 5th Novel WHERE THE WILLOWS WEEP
by BWW News Desk - Jul 10, 2015

Alabama's own Loretta Wade has just released her 5th novel. 'Where The Willows Weep' is a sentimental journey that is sure to captivate any reader. The story is told in Loretta's signature southern style and it centers around a caretaker's struggle to help her patient fight through his serious illness. Now available on Amazon, 'Where The Willows Weep' is the summer read you have been waiting for. Loretta Wade was raised as a farm girl in rural North Alabama where she learned a true understanding of the simple life. Her parents, James and Ora Freeman May, gave her a carefree country childhood in the Thompson Falls community of Marshall County, Alabama which is still listed by its old name on the county map as Ben Johnson Ridge. She continues to enjoy country living on the acreage where she grew up, gardening, canning and preserving, drying laundry on a line, and raising farm fresh eggs. She uses many sources to draw the inspiration for her novels and her library contains many of today's Modern Day Classic genres including: Fiction, Biography, Supernatural, and Inspirational. Loretta's novels have achieved international notoriety for her expertise in introducing Southern American life to her readers through the lens of her own life experience. Loretta's first novel 'Walking in Slippery Places' was re-released in 2015 and is a supernatural thriller that tells of of a close encounter with the occult. Answering some questions that came from 'Walking in Slippery Places' Loretta moved into the inspirational supernatural genre with her next novel 'When The Rainbow Comes' a gripping story that wrestles with some of the deepest question about life, death, and the hereafter. A biography came next. 'Single Handed - The Story of Keith Maze and His Dog Wishbone' is an inspirational biography of Keith Maze and his battle with cancer and how his dog Wishbone helped to show him that life can go on even after terrible tragedy. In 2014, the southern saga 'The Late Night Side of Morning' was released as a free E-novel and was received with rave reviews. This novel was inspired by her ancestor (Dr. 'Doc' William May) who suffered death at the hands of his forty-year-old suitor's (Andrew Sheffield) father, Col. James L. Sheffield in 1890. Andrew Sheffield's story is written in John S. Hughes 'The Letters of a Victorian Madwoman.' Loretta's fifth novel 'Where the Willows Weep' draws heavily on her own personal experiences and is written as an expression of her sentiment for patients fighting debilitating disease and loyal love of pets. You can find out more about Loretta wade by visiting her website at: http://www.lorettawade.com Or see her on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/lorettawadebooks (more...)

BWW Reviews: REBEKAH LOWIN Displays Her Talented New Voice In Uneven Eva Cassidy Tribute at Metropolitan RoomBWW Reviews: REBEKAH LOWIN Displays Her Talented New Voice In Uneven Eva Cassidy Tribute at Metropolitan Room
by Alix Cohen - Jul 10, 2015

Rebekah Lowin is a pretty, personable young woman with a voice that, at its best, can be ethereal. A recent Columbia University grad, Lowin first made an impression on cabaret audiences in October 2013 with an appearance at the Cabaret Convention and a show at 54 Below. Her new offering at the Metropolitan Room, I Know You By Heart, is built around the songs of Eva Cassidy, who inspired Lowin's devotion when she was in the sixth grade and held steadfast for five years of repeated listening. Virtually unknown outside Washington, DC during her lifetime, Cassidy's posthumous compilation Songbird topped the charts in 1998. (Ms. Cassidy died of cancer in 1996.) Lowin looks rather like her subject and appears to have similar range, if a less mature voice. (more...)
