BWW Recap: 'Chainsaws' Rip Up the Past on SCREAM QUEENS
by Gunnar Larson - Sep 29, 2015

“Aren't we all running from chainsaws in our past?” Wes asks his film analysis class early in the episode. SCREAM QUEENS in its third hour decides to preoccupy itself with the past. Who dated who last year? Who's the baby in the pilot? Who's Chanel #3's father? In doing so, the show manages to make wonderful forward progress in theme, plot, and character, maintaining a consistency with the two-hour premiere.  (more...)

BWW Recap: A Sugary 'Hell Week' on SCREAM QUEENS Overwhelming
by Gunnar Larson - Sep 23, 2015

In the first two minutes of SCREAM QUEENS, it's obvious this is a somehow campier, meaner version of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN with a brighter color palette. That SCREAM QUEENS will be compared to the AHS series is inevitable, sharing showrunners and genre. However, SCREAM QUEENS has a much stronger beginning than any of the seasons of AHS at all. A British Invasion: Stars Cross the Pond to Light Up Broadway This Fall!
by Nicole Rosky - Oct 25, 2015

'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway.  An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.   It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon. This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers. We're getting some complete British imports in shows like A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and KING CHARLES III. Below, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on this season's British imports. (more...)

BWW Recap: Arya Stark Becomes 'No One' on GAME OF THRONES
by Jessica Naftaly - Jun 13, 2016

As this season of Game of Thrones draws to a close, Episode 8 gave us the required death count, male nudity (was that far away shot of Sandor pissing what you wanted when you called for equal nudity Emilia Clarke?) and debunked a lot of fan theories and book plot lines that have been building up since the first installment, further confirming the show's insistence that it's truly straying away from it's source material. BWW Review: Newly Conceived THE FIREBIRD Belies the Clarity of it Creator's Vision
by David Fick - Jul 1, 2016

Piecing together a new mythology is an audacious undertaking, and yet it is an act that is at the very heart of theatre-making: the building of a new world, with its own origins and order, that only becomes fully realised when an audience believes in it. THE FIREBIRD attempts just that, telling a post-apartheid South African story against the backdrop of a created mythology. (more...)
