Haven Theatre Company and Executive Director Carol Cohen have announced Josh Sobel as the organization's newly appointed artistic director. Sobel is an established freelance director in the Chicago storefront theater scene, having worked with a variety of companies such as A Red Orchid Theatre, The Ruckus, Collaboraction, New Leaf Theatre and Strawdog Theatre Company, where he also serves as literary manager and ensemble member. In addition to assuming the role of artistic director for Haven Theatre Company, Sobel will be directing We Three at the side project this fall and The Pied Piper at Strawdog Theatre Company next summer. He is a graduate of Oberlin College. (more...)

Profiles Theatre announces that actor Paul Dillon returns to the role he originated in the 1992 world premiere of Hellcab by Will Kern for Profiles' holiday season revival of their hit production. Once again, Profiles Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox returns to direct a cast of 34 with Dillon joining the cast as the beleaguered cab driver and ensemble member Eric Burgher assistant directing. Profiles' production runs at The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway, November 8, 2013 - January 12, 2014. Please note new opening date: Wednesday, November 13, at 8:00 pm. (more...)

This show has only been staged one other time in its entire existence, in Australia in 1986, and certainly deserves a wider viewing. It is "Boojum!: Nonsense, Truth and Lewis Carroll," and it is on the boards at the DCA Theater on Randolph Street (now through December 19), a co-production of Chicago Opera Vanguard and Caffeine Theatre. Strawdog Theatre Company concludes their 25th anniversary season with Big Love by Charles L. Mee, directed by Strawdog Artistic Associate Matt Hawkins, April 18 - May 25, at the Strawdog Theatre, 3829 North Broadway Street. Preview performance tickets are $15 with performances Thursday, April 18,, Friday, April 19 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 at 4 p.m. There is a board preview benefit performance, Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m., with $50 tickets that include access to a post-performance reception.
