BWW Interview: Tech Talk with Costumer Veronica Prior
by Frank Benge - Apr 5, 2016

We continue our series on technical theatre artists in Austin with a look at the Art of Costuming. The dictionary defines costuming as "the act of furnishing or designing costumes" but that definition doesn't really tell someone exactly what all goes into that act. A costumer is the person who, for any particular production makes, sells, or rents the costumes that you see for every stage production you attend, whether it is modern dress or elaborate period outfits. It is their work that tells the audience exactly what time period a play is set in more than any other technical theatre element. We sat down with Award Winning Costumer Veronica Prior to find out a little about her and what all is involved in the art of costuming. (more...)

BWW Review: Rep's SHERLOCK HOLMES Lacks Some Grace But It's Still Holmes
by Jay Irwin - Apr 28, 2016

Back in 2013 the Seattle Rep gave us a lovely Christmas Present with R. Hamilton Wright and David Pichette's wonderful adaptation of "The Hound of the Baskervilles". And while the team is still on point and while it's still more Sherlock goodness, this original Holmes mystery from Wright doesn't quite have the elegance and grace of a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle piece. BWW Review: Gaslight's BASKERVILLE is A Yawn
by Jeffrey Ellis - Apr 1, 2016

Ken Ludwig created one of theater's best-loved and critically acclaimed farces with Lend Me A Tenor, then updated the book of one of musical theater's most revered Gershwin titles (Girl Crazy) with the long-running and equally beloved Crazy For You. Since those two mega-hits, however, he's been less successful (although, inarguably, he's kept busy churning out scripts and cashing royalty checks) and perhaps no new script has proved that point more than Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery.
