Critics are weighing in on SOME LIKE IT HOT, the brand-new Broadway musical comedy featuring a book by Matthew López & Amber Ruffin, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman and direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw, which opened on Broadway Sunday, December 11th at the Shubert Theatre.

Coolidge Corner Theatre ('The Coolidge') recently announced it will be hosting An Evening of Jazz and Healing, a one night event on Thursday, December 1 at 7pm. The event is produced by artist and former owner and programmer of the Coolidge, Justin Freed, and will include live jazz music, photography, drawings, projections, and film. KRAVIS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS Announces 26th Annual Season of Spectacular Concerts, Blockbuster Performances and Smash Hits from Broadway

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will again be the place for classical music on Los Angeles' Westside when Winter @ The Wallis returns for a second season of exhilarating performances. This year, Winter @ The Wallis adds a series of world-class jazz programming to its roster of classical music offerings beginning with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet on January 20 and ending with jazz legend Eddie Palmieri and his Latin Jazz Septet on March 30.

Over 300 performances of more than 50 different programs of theater, dance and music featuring local and world-renowned talent are on tap for the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts' 2016/17 season, among them a production of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, helmed by SPRING AWAKENING director Michael Arden.

Jules Aaron directs Michael Feingold's translation of the trailblazing musical by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill that became one of the most influential plays of the 20th Century. Darryl Archibald is musical director and Kay Cole choreographs the five-week run February 20 through March 22; low-priced previews begin February 17. First performed in 1928, Brecht and Weill's The Threepenny Opera was a revolutionary musical theater masterpiece that mocked the bourgeois political movement of pre-Hitler Germany. Brecht's brittle, sardonic tale of beggars, thieves and prostitutes, adapted from the 1728 play The Beggar's Opera by John Gay, was a fierce social and political critique, and Weill's innovative score that fused American jazz with German cabaret captured the ironic tone of the lyrics. Part acid social criticism, part bittersweet romance, the now eighty-year old saga of 'Mack the Knife' and his entourage of criminals and whores has never lost its theatrical punch. 'It's a satire on capitalism and corruption told from the viewpoint of the 'little people',' notes Aaron. 'If there was ever time to revive this show, it's now. Michael [Feingold]'s translation is earthy, gritty and very funny. I think it's going to strike a chord with audiences.'
