BWW Review: Audiences Say 'I Do!' to NCT's THE WEDDING SINGERBWW Review: Audiences Say 'I Do!' to NCT's THE WEDDING SINGER
by Kristen Morale - May 8, 2015

There rarely comes a musical that everyone truly can have nothing bad to say about - one that is saturated with a myriad of different emotions conveyed one minute through upbeat, somewhat goofy songs and the next in a somber ballad between two characters in the midst of falling in love. Especially when it is as beautifully performed by Brooklyn's own Narrows Community Theater, The Wedding Singer is truly so intricate and beautiful in its design, but is so simply a feel-good phenomenon that all should experience. BWW Reviews: STACY SULLIVAN's Intimate New Show at the Metropolitan Room Has An Identity ProblemBWW Reviews: STACY SULLIVAN's Intimate New Show at the Metropolitan Room Has An Identity Problem
by Alix Cohen - May 22, 2015

Stacy Sullivan is a warm and amusing storyteller with an entertaining family history. The first six numbers of her new Metropolitan Room show on Thursday night, Since You Asked (after the Judy Collins song), are bridged by tales of her parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and her upbringing in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, five of these songs have only the most tenuous relationship to material that follows, diminishing reception with thoughts of--Where's The Connection? What's she trying to say? Charles Evered's West Coast premiere Class is a lovely piece of theatre currently onstage at the Falcon Theatre through April 19. It's always great to see a good script be given a laudatory production with fluid staging by director Dimitri Toscas, two sensitive performances from Gildart Jackson and Callie Schuttera, and a superior set design from Francois-Pierre Couture. It's a flawless experience that makes you realize just how much value theatre has in our lives. (more...)

Met to Display TREASURES AND TALISMANS Exhibition, 5/1Met to Display TREASURES AND TALISMANS Exhibition, 5/1
by BWW News Desk - Apr 4, 2015

Worn by women and men, finger rings are among the oldest and most familiar forms of jewelry. In addition to their use as personal adornments, rings can serve as declarations of status, markers of significant life events, expressions of identity, and protective talismans. Some three dozen ancient, medieval, and later examples will be shown in the exhibition Treasures and Talismans: Rings from the Griffin Collection, opening May 1 at The Cloisters—a branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages. The collection is named after the mythical creature that was part lion and part eagle. In medieval lore, the griffin was often a guardian of treasure and was known for seeking out gold in rocks—hence its fitting use for this private collection of precious gold rings. (more...)
