Contra Costa Civic Theatre Continues Season with the World Premiere of THE LOST YEARS

Mistaken identities, family secrets, artistic ambitions, and terrible puns set the stage for Contra Costa Civic Theatre's world premiere production of The Lost Years by Los Angeles-based playwright Cynthia Wands, from April 7-30. People's Light stages the Philadelphia premiere of one of the most-produced new plays in America this past year, Lauren Gunderson's I and You. This "sharp and funny 80-minute drama" (Washington Post) centers on two quick-minded young people: Caroline, a sardonic social critic, and Anthony, an easygoing athlete. When they're thrown together to complete a school report on Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, these perceptive teens discover they have more in common than they could possibly anticipate. Thierry Fischer to Complete Brahms' Cycle with Utah Symphony in Two February Weekends

On February 3 and 4 at 7:30 PM, Maestro Fischer will conduct Brahms' Symphony No. 2 and Brahms' "Academic Festival Overture", in a concert that features guest artist Narek Hakhnazaryan debuting in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1. Maestro Fischer will return to the stage two weeks later to lead Brahms' Symphony No. 4 on February 24 and 25, concluding Brahms' symphony cycle in the Utah Symphony 2016-17 season. The February 24/25 concert will also include the U.S. premiere of Michael Jarrell's composition "Aquateinte" performed by guest oboist Francois Leleux, for whom the piece was written. These performances are both part of the O.C. Tanner Company Masterworks Series. Tickets start at $21 ($15 for students), and can be purchased at utahsymphony.org or by calling (801) 533-6683. Imagine stepping off Orange Avenue into the lobby of what feels like an old-time New York Hotel. Then, you take what looks and feels like an old-time elevator up to the ninth floor where you arrive at Macbeth studio. The inside has been transformed to what appears to be the inside of an apartment belonging to a teenager from the 1980s. 'Who Knows the Sun,' by Velvet Underground is playing, and around the room are Frank Zappa posters. You can still hear the sounds coming from Orange avenue, which only adds to the New York feel of the apartment. (more...)
