TRIP OF LOVE Becomes Longest Running Show to Play Stage 42

Trip of Love, the 1960's pop music spectacular,breaks the Stage 42 house record, becoming the theater's longest running tenant. At the matinee on Wednesday, June 22, Trip of Love will have played 305 performances (including 24 preview performances). This breaks standing house record held by the 2003 musical Fame on 42nd Street, which ran for a total of 304 performances (including 40 previews) at the same venue when it was previously called The Little Shubert Theater. MOVIN' ON UP to Premiere at FringeNYC

?MOVIN' ON UP, the absurdist comedy written by Los Angeles playwright Jeremy Kehoe, will make its World Premiere at The 20th Annual New York Fringe Festival in August. Kehoe's previous work includes the critically acclaimed productions of Killing Russell Crow at Group Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles and AMMO at the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival. In New York, Jeremy's work has been produced by Emerging Artists Theatre, Roots & Wings Theatrical, and UP Theatre Company. The production is directed by Christian Amato, who has served as a producer on such notable productions as  Rocky and The Color Purple. As director, Christian staged the World Premiere productions of Bitch and Barbicide at the Historic Players Theatre.  (more...)

2016 is one of Broadway's most diverse seasons, so much so it spawned a Twitter trending hashtag #TonysSoDiverse following the nominations for this past weekend's awards ceremony. 12 Black and non-Black actors of color were nominated for a Tony Award. For the first time in the Tonys' history, all four musical acting categories were won by Black actors, and if you walk down 45th Street, as soprano Paula Dione Ingram has, the block is lit up by 'Black Broadway.' It's a laudable moment in a theatre history that has not always been so and still continues to have a long way to go, the subject of Ingram's Dark Legacy: Bright Lights of Black Broadway, her debut show at Feinstein's/54 Below on June 4. Rehearsals for Fiasco Theater's INTO THE WOODS at Menier Chocolate Factory Now Underway

Following their success at the Tony Awards last night, where they won Best Musical Revival for The Color Purple and Cynthia Erivo won Best Actress in a Musical, the Menier Chocolate Factory announces that rehearsals start today in New York for innovative and ground breaking theatre company Fiasco's enchanting reinvention of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's masterpiece Into The Woods. Both Sondheim and Lapine will join the company in rehearsal this week. The production opens on 12 July at the Menier, with previews from 1 July, and runs until 17 September. (more...)
