This folk gospel musical, presented in an entirely made-up language, will be directed by Andrew Neisler (Pipeline's acclaimed hit Clown Bar) featuring a cast of sixteen. Previews begin October 26 at The Gym at Judson with opening slated for October 31. The company will also present a special benefit performance on Wednesday, October 30 at 8PM to benefit Nomi Network, which provides training and economic opportunities for survivors and women at risk of human trafficking. This special benefit performance will include an introduction by the Nomi community, a talk back with the cast and creative team of Byuioo, and a wine reception. (more...)

A.C.T.'s 2014 Season Gala Raises Over $670K for Actor Training and Arts Education Programs

With the help of students from the Master of Fine Arts and Young Conservatory programs, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) raised over $670,000 at its 2014 Season Gala, FLEISHHACKER, MAGNIN, SWIG -- A.C.T.'s MAD, MAD MEN, which honored the three founding fathers of A.C.T. -- Mortimer Fleishhacker, Jr., Cyril Magnin, and Melvin Swig -- and celebrated the past, present, and future of the organization. The Gala took place on Sunday, May 18, at the historic Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. The proceeds from the Gala support A.C.T.'s actor training and arts education programs. (more...)

Tonight's Performance of CSC's A MAN'S A MAN Cancelled Due to Cast Injury

This evening's performance of Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht's A MAN'S A MAN has been cancelled due to an injury last night to cast member Bill Buell (Jeraiah Jip). Buell sustained a fractured ankle while off-stage early in the first act due to a mechanical malfunction involving a ballast weight for a garage door which is part of the show's set design. As there is no understudy for the role, the remainder of last evening's performance had to be cancelled as well as tonight's performance while a replacement actor is found. CSC hopes to resume performances tomorrow. (more...)

A.C.T. Sets Spring 2014 Repertory: OUR LADY OF 121ST STREET, THE GIRL FROM MAXIM'S & TEACH FOR AMERICA

American Conservatory Theater announced today the Spring 2014 Repertory featuring students from A.C.T.'s acclaimed Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program, as well as a coproduction featuring students from A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory (YC) Program. The three works in repertory this May are Stephen Adly Guirgis' scorching comedy, Our Lady of 121st Street; Georges Feydeau's madcap farce The Girl from Maxim's; and Rob Ackerman's hilarious and heartbreaking Teach for America. Tickets for each performance are $20 and are available online at www.act-sf.org or by calling the A.C.T. Box Office at 415.749.2228. Two and three-show packages are available. Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, announced today that its acclaimed production of David Ives' THE HEIR APPARENT, adapted from the play by Jean-Francois Regnard, will extend through Sunday, May 11 at CSC (136 East 13th Street).
