CAP 21 Theatre Company presents SOUTHERN COMFORT, a new musical by Dan Collins (book and lyrics) and Julianne Wick Davis (music), based on Kate Davis' 2001 Sundance award-winning documentary about transgender friends in rural Georgia. Jeffrey Kuhn and Todd Cerveris join previously announced Annette O'Toole and Jeff McCarthy, with previews to begin October 5, prior to its official press opening October 6 at the CAP21 Black Box Theater (18 West 18th Street) in Manhattan. Inspired by queer avant-garde artist, activist and filmmaker, Jarman (all this maddening beauty) invades the mind and artistic aesthetic of Derek Jarman (The Last of England, Sebastiane, The Tempest) to create a poetic and visually dynamic mash-up of video and live performance. The Brooklyn-based theatre company, Woodshed Collective, will present the premiere of Caridad Svich's Twelve Ophelias, directed by Teddy Bergman, as a free event at McCarren Park Pool, one of the city's best-loved concert and performance venues, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, beginning performances Friday, July 11, at 8pm and opening Thursday, July 24 at 8pm. INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) today announced the two plays for its Winter/Spring 2013 season: Lucy Loves Me, written by Migdalia Cruz, directed by Lou Moreno, and Pinkolandia written by Andrea Thome, directed by Jose Zayas. Lucy Loves Me will begin performances Off-Broadway Friday February 22nd continuing through March 24th. Pinkolandia begins performances Friday, May 3rd and will continue through May 26th. Both Lucy Loves Me and Pinkoldandia are products of INTAR's legendary Maria Irene FornÚs Hispanic Playwrights-in-Residence Laboratory (MIF HPRL). (more...)
