Rounding out the cast and making their Alley debuts are Rachael Holmes as Cassandra and Sarah Nealis as Nina. Nicholas Hytner's production of Richard Bean's Great Britain will transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket following its National Theatre run, with performances beginning 10 September 2014. Public booking will open this Friday, 4 July, at 9.30am, for performances until 10 January 2015. Great Britain is designed by Tim Hatley, with video design by 59 Productions, lighting by Neil Austin, music by Grant Olding and sound by Paul Arditti. According to the BBC, departing Director of the National Theatre Nicholas Hytner just revealed that after he leaves in 2015, he and executive director Nick Starr will create a new theatre company. He told BBC: 'I will make theatre for a new company that will, we hope, find new ways of making commercial theatre. Plans are not finished and set in stone. I'm going to continue working with Nick Starr and we will continue, we hope, to produce theatre in the commercial sector.' (more...)

The Washington Stage Guild completes its Season of Dreams with the area premiere of Simon Bent's ELLING, a whimsical comedy of the power of friendship when everyday life is an adventure. Bent's London hit is based on a quartet of novels by the Norwegian writer Ingvar Ambjornsen that was the source of an Oscar-nominated film in 2002. ELLING is the story of a pair of misfits who, after rooming together for years in an institution, are offered an independent life - if they can cope with it. Elling and Kjell Bjarne must learn to deal with the world and each other's fears and quirks, and Elling's discovery of literary ambition becomes a path to a 'normal' life. The Washington Stage Guild completes its Season of Dreams with the area premiere of Simon Bent's ELLING, a whimsical comedy of the power of friendship when everyday life is an adventure. Bent's London hit is based on a quartet of novels by the Norwegian writer Ingvar Ambjornsen that was the source of an Oscar-nominated film in 2002. ELLING is the story of a pair of misfits who, after rooming together for years in an institution, are offered an independent life - if they can cope with it. Elling and Kjell Bjarne must learn to deal with the world and each other's fears and quirks, and Elling's discovery of literary ambition becomes a path to a 'normal' life. Along the way the two have a series of offbeat adventures as they struggle with bureaucracy, relationships, and their own demons. (more...)
