Pontine Theatre Receives $4,000 Grant

Thanks to a $4,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation, Pontine Theatre is presenting a new touring program, 'Isles of Shoals: Eternal Sound of the Sea' at assisted living communities, senior centers and nursing facilities throughout New Hampshire. The Isles of Shoals, an archipelago of nine rocky isles located six miles off the New Hampshire and Maine coast, were announced to the Western world in 1614 by Capt. John Smith, of Pocahontas fame. Over the years since they have served as a base for fishermen working the bountiful waters of the Gulf of Maine, a haven for the occasional pirate, and a summer retreat for artists and the well-to-do. Theatre Memphis to Welcome Designer Kathryn Greeley for Black Tie Evening, 5/16

A special black tie evening has been planned for May 16, 2014 at Theatre Memphis as a fundraising event. Nationally known interior designer Kathryn Greeley will speak referencing her book The Collected Tabletop: Inspirations for Creative Entertaining and will display an example of her skills along with Memphis designers. The vignette displays will be only part of the offerings with an open bar, an “on stage” dinner prepared by Chef Felicia Willett of Felicia Suzanne's restaurant along with a silent auction of high end objects and selective cabaret entertainment by Theatre Memphis performers. Attendees will also receive an autographed copy of Greeley's book. The festivities begin at 6:30pm. Tickets are available by calling 901.682.8323 and are $225 per person or $400 per couple. A $30 general admission ticket is available for open bar cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and vignette viewing only and will not include the featured dinner or an autographed book. Lauder Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art will be the most important exhibition of the essential Cubists-Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963), Juan Gris (Spanish, 1887-1927), Fernand Léger (French, 1881-1955), and Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973)-in more than 30 years. The exhibition and accompanying publication will trace the invention and development of Cubism using iconic examples from the Leonard A. Lauder Collection, with its unparalleled holdings in this foundational modernist movement. The exhibition will mark the first time that the Collection, which Mr. Lauder pledged to the Museum in April 2013, is shown in its entirety, including the most recent addition, Léger's The Village. The exhibition, which opens October 20, 2014, will present 79 paintings, works on paper, and sculpture: 17 by Braque, 14 by Gris, 15 by Léger, and 33 by Picasso.
