Denver Center for Performing Arts Raises a Record $1 Million to Benefit Theatre Education

Coming up March 24th and 25th, we have the theater club's first short play festival. Completely student run, this festival will showcase published plays as well as two original student works. These plays are performed, designed, and directed by the students. As one of the student directors, I can't begin to tell you about how proud I am to be a part of this festival. This is my first time directing outside of classes and I am absolutely thrilled to be directing Smitten written by Mark Harvey Levine. The entire experience has shaped me as a director, actor, designer, and even an audience member. It has definitely impacted how I will look at future productions and has given me even more respect for the various positions involved in making a production happen. The McCallum Theatre Concert Band returns for its 5th annual performance on Sunday, March 26, at 3:00pm. This year's program with Gershwin's classic 'An American in Paris' will be conducted by McCallum Theatre President and CEO Mitch Gershenfeld. It's an afternoon performance for the entire family with 40 of Hollywood's finest musicians playing stirring marches, band classics and popular tunes. Never mind stepping out - the real wonder of this production is Anna-Jane Casey stepping in for the injured Tamzin Outhwaite at short notice. It's a plot twist worthy of the backstage shenanigans in Richard Harris's genial 1984 play about the members of a weekly tap class, and Casey's superb turn - and smooth integration into the ensemble - equally in keeping with its triumphant community spirit. BWW Review: ACT's TRIBES – Touching and Engaging But a Bit Cliché and Forced

But even with my level of enjoyment in the moments of the play I can't help but also see some glaring shortcomings in the piece itself specifically having to do with the characters and their arcs.
