BWW Reviews: Stage Door's ODD COUPLE Brings Nuanced Laughs to Classic Comedy
by Matt Tamanini - Jul 18, 2014

Perhaps no modern play has been so engrained in our country's consciousness over the past five decades as Neil Simon's classic comedy, THE ODD COUPLE. That fact notwithstanding, Stage Door Players' production, running now through August 3rd, still finds new and inventive ways to entertain. The production, directed by Shelly McCook, stars Stage Door's Artistic Director Robert Egizio as uptight Felix Unger, and the Atlanta Lyric Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Alan Kilpatrick as the slovenly Oscar Madison. Oscar takes in his best friend Felix after he is kicked out by his wife, despite the fact that the two have little in common, other than their weekly poker game. (more...)

He soon makes the acquaintance of his off-the-wall, liberated, actress neighbor Jill. Don learns the kind of things from Jill that his mother would never have taught him! BWW Reviews: Actor's Express' ROCKY HORROR SHOW is a Titillating Evening of Talent and Depravity
by Matt Tamanini - Jul 15, 2014

I am quite aware that this will sound sacrilegious to many who read this review, but until I saw Actor's Express' titillating production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, I had never seen the musical before. I have a vague recollection of watching the film version on VH1's 'Movies That Rock' at some point in the mid-90's, but other than seeing Susan Sarandon in her underwear, it didn't do much to interest me. So, as I made my way to the King Plow Arts Center, I expected to be impressed by the tremendous young talents in the cast, but what I didn't expect was to be transported to another world of naughty, musical theatre ecstasy. There's magic in the summer air at Third Avenue Playhouse. Sturgeon Bay's Stage Door Theater Company opened their new season with Lanford Wilson's Talley's Folly. BWW Blog: Paige Davis - The Gold Stage Door
by Guest Blogger: Paige Davis - Aug 28, 2014

When I was 10 years old, I had the life altering good fortune to see A CHORUS LINE on Broadway. It was playing at the Shubert Theater and it offered a gift of magic that stayed with me from curtain up to curtain down, and beyond. I had been transported by the dancers and their stories; so when the show ended, I pleaded with my parents to let me wait at the Stage Door in Shubert Alley for the dancers to emerge. I didn't have lofty goals of meeting them or asking for their autographs, I just wanted to catch a reassuring glimpse that such creatures were real. (more...)

BWW Reviews: TRICK BOXING Romances Summer Fun at Third Avenue Playhouse
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - Aug 11, 2014

Cross, hook, jab and uppercut-know anything about boxing? Sturgeon Bay's Third Avenue Playhouse imports Sossy Merchanics in a Stage Door Theatre Company performance billed Tricky Boxing August. While no audience member needs to know anything about boxing to throughly enjoy the high energy production, the team of Brian Sostek and Megan McClellan pairs in the nostalgic 1940's fictional tale of boxer Dancing Danny David and how he acquired the 'knockout of his life.'
