The Wetumpka Depot Players took top honors this weekend at the Alabama Conference of Theatre's Community Theater Festival. Their production of 'Night Mother was awarded Best in Show and was invited to represent Alabama at the Southeastern Theatre Conference ( SETC) in March 2015 with opportunity to advance to AACTFest2015 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In addition to the production being named top show, the two cast members, Sue Ellen Gerrells and Kristy Meanor were both recognized for their performances. (more...)

Film producer turned novelist Arianna Eisenberg has been awarded the Breakthrough Novel Award in Honor of Distinguished Publishing given by bookseller giant Amazon for her new eBook 'Jemiyah Jones and the Kingdom of Nir.' Jemiyah Jones is a mythological fantasy story about a fifteen year old English school girl who discovers that she descends from heroic Warrior Queens and possesses great powers because of that bloodline. Fast-paced and dramatic, Jemiyah must use her newly discovered talents to fight Dark Queen Baliekah Pearl after she rises from a centuries long sleep. Other popular authors are singing the praises of this new book including 'Losing to Win' author Randy Jernigan. 'Jemiyah Jones held me Spellbound from first sentence to last. Arianna's engaging narration and writing style are nothing less than brilliant and captivating. I think we have another J K Rowling on the scene,' said the author. Pacific Symphony and Festival Ballet Theatre (FBT) entice audiences of all ages with the sweet melodies, magical celebration and excitement of one of Tchaikovsky's most famous ballets during the holiday concert, "Nutcracker for Kids," part of Family Musical Mornings presented by Farmers and Merchants Bank. Led by Assistant Conductor Alejandro Gutierrez, the orchestra shares the stage with the enchanted ballerinas from FBT, led by Artistic Director Salwa Rizkalla, who bring this beloved Christmas tale of the prince and Clara to life. The classic battle between the Mouse King and the Nutcracker has children on the edge of their seats as Tchaikovsky's memorable music, performed live, fills the air with wonder. Then the dancers twirl and glide across the stage to the renowned "Waltz of the Flowers" and the enchanting "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." On the heels of Memorial Day, Broadway Across America - Houston is presenting the First US National Tour of the acclaimed play WAR HORSE. The visually spectacular production first premiered on London's Off-West End in the Olivier Theatre at the National Theatre. It transferred to the West End's New London Theatre, where it is still running. It enjoyed Broadway success at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at New York City's Lincoln Center. It has since been produced in Canada, Australia, and Germany. After seeing this tour, it is no surprise that everywhere the play goes, it leaves tear-soaked audiences speechless and amazed. The biennial Adelaide International Guitar Festival has again struck a chord with audiences who flocked to the Adelaide Festival Centre over the past four days to celebrate the world's most popular instrument. Hosted by Academy award-winning actress Eva Marie Saint (On the Waterfront, North by Northwest), the evening will feature mesmerizing, haunting and psychologically gripping scores by Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tiomkin, Alfred Newman, Franz Waxman, Miklos Rozsa and more.
