Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar has garnered five Grammy Award-nominations and the title 'Asian Hero' by Time magazine. She studied sitar under her father and guru, the late Ravi Shankar, making her professional classical debut at the age of 13. With 11 recordings to her credit (including Traces of You, which features Anoushka's half-sister Norah Jones, and Home, from which her Folsom program will be culled), 'her exquisite sitar playing...lives up to the virtuosity that made her the youngest woman ever nominated for a World Music Grammy' (Harper's Bazaar). To accommodate extraordinary ticket demand, Lifeline Theatre announces ten added performances of its Jeff Recommended and critically-acclaimed production of A Wrinkle in Time, adapted by James Sie (Non-Equity Jeff Award: New Work, Island of Blue Dolphins), and directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Elise Kauzlaric (Non-Equity Jeff nomination: Director-Play, Mariette in Ecstasy), based on the novel by Madeleine L'Engle. Ever since her father vanished under mysterious circumstances, Meg Murry's life has been spiraling out of control. But one dark and stormy night, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which appear with a promise to help rescue him from the monstrous darkness that threatens the universe. Multi-Grammy Award winning band TOTO has announced the first set of dates for their Summer U.S. tour.  The tour will stop at the State Theatre in Easton on Friday, June 16.  Tickets go on sale to State Theatre members today at 10AM and to the general public on Friday, March 10 at 10 am. The shows are billed as 'An Evening With Toto" and their performances will feature repertoire for their latest studio album XIV, classic hits, and both band and fan favorites from their vast catalog in performances that will stage two hours of music.  Last summer, Toto embarked their first U.S. headline run in over a decade. Art, history, and humanity align in City Theatre's upcoming production of The Guard by Jessica Dickey. Directed by Artistic Director Tracy Brigden, the play will run March 11-April 2 on the Main Stage, continuing the 2016-17 season of new plays. This is the third time Ms. Dickey's work has been produced at City Theatre, following Charles Ives Take Me Home (2013) and The Amish Project (2011). The play features a cast of five tackling ten roles-including appearances by the legendary painter Rembrandt and the epic poet Homer-over three time periods. Tickets are on sale now. (more...)
