This year's highly-anticipated event is expected to attract thousands of people to the Lincoln Square area and light up the entire Upper West Side. There will be over 20 live performance areas, more than 30 restaurants offering tastings and many great performers including Tony Award Winning, renowned Broadway stars, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Bebe Neuwirth headlining the festival. Children of all ages are invited to the 14th Annual Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square - New York City's largest outdoor holiday festival hosted by the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District (BID). Theevening of family fun will kick off with a performance by Tony Award Winning, renowned Broadway star, Brian Stokes Mitchell accompanied by Rosie's Theater Kids, Frank London's Klezmer Brass All Stars, Bond Street Theatre's Shinbone Alley Stilt Walking Band, and WABC-TV's Sade Baderinwa at the Upper West Side neighborhood's holiday tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5:30pm at the main stage in Dante Park at Broadway & 63rd Street. This year's 35 foot Norway Spruce and festive lights have been generously donated by local restaurateur PJ Clarke's. The Winter's Eve festival is free, open to the public and will take place on Monday, December 2nd from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m. along Broadway from Time Warner Center to 68th Street with activities for the whole family. As part of the festivities, TCM will partner with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as they honor Brooks with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which marks its 50th anniversary this year. Brooks will also introduce a festival screening of his first feature film, The Producers (1968), which earned Brooks an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. (more...)

Probably the golden age of musical theatre in the US was from 1950 to 1960. Great scripts like King and I, My Fair Lady, and West Side Story were staged. Also produced were such flops as Salad Days, Zuleika, Ankles Away, The Vamp, ShaNgri-La, Shinbone Alley, and Free As Air. Most shows were of the neither great nor flop variety. These included the likes of Call Me Madam, Guys and Dolls, Paint Your Wagon, Can-Can, Wonderful Town, Fanny, and The Pajama Game. 'Make Music New York' Returns With Free Concerts 6/21

Make Music New York, described by city officials as "one of the largest musical events in the city's history," is back for a fourth year of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all on the first day of summer. Carolyn d'Amboise, Photographer and Dancer Passes Away at 81

The stage star passed away at the Manhattan home she shared with her husband, New York City Ballet star Jacques d'Amboise, on Tuesday after a long struggle with primary lateral sclerosis, a rare neuromuscular disease.
