Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Marg Helgenberger, known for her 12 seasons as Catherine Willows on CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, stars as Regina Giddens under veteran director Kyle Donnelly, who has directed more than 20 productions at Arena Stage. BWW Interview: Emma Benson of Popular Web Series: THE DREAM TEAM

Shenandoah Conservatory students have been creating a lot of their own art and content, one of the most successful projects is a web series called The Dream Team. Created by two theatre students, the original series tells the story of a class of theatre majors, living out their first year of college at the fictional Betsey Bell Conservatory. Founded in October of 2015, the show has garnered more than 8,000 views on YouTube, over 150 subscribers, and upwards of 300 FaceBook likes. I was lucky enough to connect with the show's co-creator and star Emma Benson, a third year Musical Theatre student at Shenandoah and hear about what's in store for Season 2. (more...)

Singer/entertainer Jenene Caramielo brought her thrilling voice to Feinstein's/54 Below last night and BroadwayWorld was there. Jenene graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory, in Virginia, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater. She studied private voice, dance and acting as well as piano and improvisation. After college she started working in different regional theaters in Virginia and Florida. With a thirst to travel she continued her career as the headliner on different cruise lines such as Holland America, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and most recently she performed as a guest entertainer on a 2013 world tour with Princess Cruises where she sang her way through Australia to the middle east and Italy. American Modern Ensemble, the critically-acclaimed new music group praised by The New York Times as "simply first-rate," opens its 2016-17 season joined by the harp duo Duo Scorpio at The Cell in Chelsea on Friday, November 18: a concert of harp-centric music ranging from a 1949 piece by the maverick Lou Harrison to three works written in the past five years by two young leading-edge composers, Robert Paterson and Andy Akiho. In October of 1998 Matthew Shepard, a twenty-one-year-old University student was kidnapped, beaten, and left to die on a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. The reason for his killing: he was gay. One of the first murders to be labeled a hate crime, it brought attention the lack of 'hate crime protection' several states possessed. Five weeks after his death, Moises Kaufman and other members of the Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie and interviewed its citizens for a whole year after the event. This is the true story of how residents in Laramie, Wyoming reacted to the murder of Matthew Shepard. (more...)

High School Seniors to Compete in Teen Actor Awards Competition

The Teen Actor Awards is the biggest teen acting competition ever produced! The competition is designed for all high school acting students, a Senior Division for high school seniors and Junior Division for high school freshman, sophomores and juniors. Once a student enters the competition, they receive the book, 'Winning Your Acting Audition' by master acting teacher, Larry Silverberg. They also get an online workshop with Larry, 'The Seven Keys to Winning your Acting Audition' where he helps students prepare for the Competition. Students choose from six monologues to use as their entry as we guide them through the process of creating a successful self-taped audition. Winners will be announced on February 15, 2017. (more...)

This past weekend I was lucky enough to attend a pre-screening audition at the Virginia Theatre Association (VTA) in Norfolk, VA. The audition determinates your eligibility to take part in the South Eastern Theatre Conference (SETC), where you are able to audition for hundreds of theatre companies. I'm tryna #book summer stock theatre this summer, so here's hoping I get passed through to SETC. (more...)

WaterTower Theatre today announced details for the third annual WOMEN IN THEATRE panel discussion.  The event is presented under the auspices of Women of WaterTower Theatre (WOW!) and it is chaired by Jennifer Martinez.  This is the third panel in the series, having already explored the unique perspective of prominent female directors and actors, 2017 will feature The Designers, and it will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm (with a post-lecture reception in the lobby with the artists).
