Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is one of those timeless stories that has been told and retold in many different ways. Scrooge! The Musical is a stage musical with book, music, and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. Its score and book are closely adapted from the music and screenplay of the 1970 musical film "Scrooge" starring Albert Finney. Bricusse was nominated for the Academy Award for the song score he wrote for the film, and most of those songs were carried over to the musical. Some favorites include, "Happiness," "Love While You Can," " The Minister's Cat," and "Thank You Very Much".

The "Alley Theatre @ UH" season begins with Elizabeth Ashley and Hallie Foote in the southwestern premiere of Horton Foote's wonderfully entertaining The Old Friends, directed byMichael Wilson. Alley Resident Actors Jay Sullivan, James Black, and Jeffrey Bean, and returning artist Jeremy Webb lead the cast of Dracula, the Original Vampire Play, a production that will include the iconic designs by Edward Gorey, directed by Artistic Director Gregory Boyd. Kansas City Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Eric Rosen today announced changes to its artistic staff for its 50th Anniversary Season. Associate Artistic Director Kyle Hatley, who is planning to return to Chicago over the coming year, will become Resident Director. As previously announced, his duties will include performing in An Iliad and developing and directing the world premiere of Nathan Jackson's Sticky Traps; in addition, he will support the annual production of A Christmas Carol, now directed by Jerry Genochio. The Fight for Marriage Equality in the Land of Lincoln is the focus of a new book from Windy City Times writers Kate Sosin and Tracy Baim. The book looks at the financial and political pressure from the LGBT community and its allies to pass the marriage-equality law in 2013, including heated internal battles and intense heat put on elected officials in the final days of the legislative session.
