Mercer County Community College's (MCCC) Kelsey Theatre kicks off its 2013-14 season with a trip back to Roman times when PinnWorth Productions presents 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' tonight, Sept. 6 to 15. This high-energy classic starts off a colorful season of 22 full-length dramas and musical productions, along with eight shows for the younger set through the Kelsey Kids Series, performed by traveling professional troupes and local companies. Mercer County Community College's Theatre students are teaming up with MCCC Professor Emeritus and renowned painter Mel Leipzig for a staged reading of "Rosmersholm," by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. As eight students bring the drama to life in a staged reading, Professor Leipzig will serve as an on-stage narrator to lead the audience through the complexities of the plot and shed light on the historical events at the time the play was written. "Rosmersholm" will be performed at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre, located on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. (more...)

The CQS Space, The Old Vic in the round, will be home to the whole season of productions, continuing after Other Desert Cities which opens this month. The plays will be performed in the round, a transformation of The Old Vic's auditorium first seen for the award-winning 2008 production of The Norman Conquests. Berkeley Repertory Theatre announces the world premiere of The House that will not Stand, a historical comedic drama commissioned from award-winning poet-playwright and Oakland native Marcus Gardley. Sensuous, witty, heartbreaking, and uplifting - The House that will not Stand unearths a story about free women of color in 1836 New Orleans, where black Creole women entered into common-law marriages with affluent white men. When her wealthy lover mysteriously dies, Beartrice Albans' foundation of security hangs precariously by a thread. She is left to fend for her three unwed daughters in a world where freedom must be carefully negotiated. Told in a rich and lyrical river of words, this new play was developed through The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work. It's helmed by Patricia McGregor, whose many credits include the celebrated production of Spunk at California Shakespeare Theater. The House that will not Stand begins previews on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage today, January 31, opens on Wednesday, February 5 and runs through Sunday, March 16, 2014. (more...)

Directed by John Rando, THE HEIR APPARENT will feature Suzanne Bertish (Madame Argante), Carson Elrod (Crispin), Claire Karpen (Lisette), Amelia Pedlow (Isabelle), David Pittu (Scruple), Dave Quay (Eraste) and Paxton Whitehead (Geronte). Something familiar, something peculiar, something for everyone, a comedy tonight! Mercer County Community College's (MCCC) Kelsey Theatre kicks off its 2013-14 season with a trip back to Roman times when PinnWorth Productions presents “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” Sept. 6 to 15. This high-energy classic starts off a colorful season of 22 full-length dramas and musical productions, along with eight shows for the younger set through the Kelsey Kids Series, performed by traveling professional troupes and local companies. From 26 July - 12 August 2012, the Criterion Theatre will present Playing The Games, a programme of work which will celebrate both artistic and sporting talent featuring emerging and established actors, comedians, musicians, playwrights and Olympians. Sam Hodges, Producer of the Criterion Theatre, has commissioned two new plays by emerging British playwrights Serge Cartwright and Adam Brace in response to the presence of the Olympic Games in London-After the Party and Taking Part, respectively. Richard Eyre returns to the Almeida Theatre to adapt and direct Ibsen's Ghosts. Ghosts will run from 26 September - 23 November 2013, with Press Night on 3 October.
