Open Book Theatre Season Directed By All Women

???????Open Book Theatre Company is helmed by Grosse Ile resident Krista Schafer Ewbank.  "I've always been aware of the lack of roles, both onstage and off, for women.  There are far more women at auditions and vying for jobs, but theatre is often still a man's world."  According to a recent study by Wellesly Centers for Women less than 27% of theatres have women in the artistic director role.   A 2015 study by the Dramatists Guild found that 78% of plays produced were written by men.  "I always look for plays that feature strong roles for women. It's harder than you might think with so many plays being written by men. I think we've found a really good balance." (more...)

Signature Announces Cast for THE RED LETER PLAYS; Tickets Now On Sale

Casting is confirmed and tickets are now on sale for the Signature Theatre (Paige Evans, Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director; James Houghton, Founder) productions of Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks' The Red Letter Plays: Fucking A & In the Blood. This is the first time these acclaimed plays will be presented together; they will run simultaneously at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). These two plays mark the final productions of Parks' Signature Residency One. At a celebratory opening ceremony for The Jim Henson Exhibition, housed in a new gallery at Museum of the Moving Image funded by The City of New York, the First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, the Museum's Executive Director Carl Goodman, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, and City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer were joined by Jim Henson's daughter Cheryl Henson, and special appearances by Abby Cadabby, Red Fraggle, and Fozzie Bear, among other guests.
