by Ian Justl Ellis, M.D. - Oct 7, 2014

Last week in part one I explored the essential role food plays in our lives, discussed how our diets have changed over the past 100 years to include a higher percentage of heavily processed, nutrient poor, and calorie dense food items, and laid out a common sense pathway to lead us back to a place of sanity with regards to our diets. Today I present the alternative to the food facsimiles that take up such a high percentage of our diets. (more...)

by Marakay Rogers - Oct 14, 2014

Gypsy Rose Lee perfected the striptease that emphasized the tease and avoided an actual reveal. THE BLACKLIST has copied her style – when will we get any concrete information on Elizabeth Keen? This week, we managed to learn only that she isn't Red's missing daughter, Jennifer. In non-Keen news, we learned that Naomi's real name is Carla and that Red was a lousy husband. Perhaps we should discuss government mind control programs instead. That's Red's solution to these issues. (more...)

by Herbert Paine - Oct 13, 2014

The Producers is Mel Brooks' irreverent and satirical but ever-loving homage to Broadway show biz and has etched into the minds of theatregoers some of the most memorable if not outlandish concepts, characters and lines ever. It is nearly impossible not to measure later performances of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom against Mostel and Wilder or Lane and Broderick…BUT, not so impossible when Michael McAssey and Jared Mancuso take the stage in Arizona Broadway Theatre's production of this theatrical gem and lead a cast of performers any one of whom can steal the show. by Ellen Dostal - Nov 11, 2014

This isn't the first time the Illyrian Players have taken on Shakespeare. In 2011, the company began its provocative theatrical conversation about gender and sex with Twelfth Night, and it has since given LA a BDSM version of The Taming of the Shrew and a gender reversed Macbeth. In addition to Shakespeare, they have produced a number of new plays; bold, edgy works that set them apart from other theatre companies, led by a vision that sees theatre as 'a subversive art form with which to change the world.' BWW Reviews: Theater Latte Da's Production of Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS is Sparse, Inventive, and GorgeousBWW Reviews: Theater Latte Da's Production of Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS is Sparse, Inventive, and Gorgeous
by Jill Schafer - Mar 11, 2015

I first saw the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical fairy tale mash up INTO THE WOODS four years ago, and have seen it several times since then, including the recent star-studded movie. Every time I see it I like it more. I think Sondheim is like Shakespeare in that it has a very specific rhythm and cadence to it that takes a minute to get used to, but the more time you spend with it, the richer and deeper it becomes. Such has been my experience with INTO THE WOODS, so I was primed to love my favorite theater company Theater Latte Da's production of it. But it has exceeded my expectations, and even Sondheim newbies will be enthralled by this brilliant staging of a brilliantly written musical. Latte Da has pared down this big Broadway musical to something that feels intimate and innovative, using a small cast and orchestra, and inventive and thoughtful choices in every detail of the production. This, my friends, is Broadway re-imagined, or at least how I would like to see Broadway re-imagined. Simply put, it's sublime. (more...)
