To that end, 1,500 New York City public high school and middle school students from 20 schools (and one school from East Orange, NJ), who are participating in TDF's Stage Doors Program, will be attending a special matinee performance of Broadway's smash hit, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL on Thursday, April 3 at 1pm at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street, NYC). Isle of Klezbos Release New Album with Special Concert at Joe's Pub, 4/6

ISLE of KLEZBOS, the soulful and swinging all-women's klezmer sextet, will release their second album with a special concert at JOE'S PUB at the Public on Sunday, April 6 at 7:30 PM. The new disc, Live from Brooklyn - recorded in concert last year at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, with the addition of two bonus studio numbers - will be available from Rhythm Media Records on Tuesday, April 8 as well as at the Joe's Pub performance. Formed in 1998, the group approaches their music with a canny mix of irreverence and respect. Live from Brooklyn features the group's signature diverse blend of rambunctious folk dances, exciting Yiddish swing, entrancing retro tango, klezmerengue, re-grooved standards, and genre-defying originals. Broadway's Lawrence Hamilton Passes Away at 59

According to Arkansas Online, Broadway star Lawrence Hamilton passed away yesterday at age 59 due to complications from surgery. Hamilton was born in Arkansas in 1954. Aside from performing on Broadway, he also studied Music Education and taught as a professor. (more...)

Music Director and Conductor Michael Morgan and the Oakland East Bay Symphony continue to set a high standard of innovative and engaging programming as they announce details of their 2014—2015 season. The six-concert, 26th season—Maestro Morgan's 25th with the Orchestra-- will feature the world premiere of a new work for violin and orchestra by Grammy Award-winning composer/violinist Mads Tolling, the West Coast premiere of Chris Brubeck and Guillaume Saint-James'Brothers in Arts for jazz quintet and orchestra, a semi-staged performance of Leonard Bernstein's Candide, pianists Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner and Richard Glazier, Notes from Mexico, a holiday tribute to Pete Seeger and more.
