Last season's "The Liar" was one of the funnier, tighter, and most professional shows I saw all of last year, and this Spring's production of "Orson's Shadow" by Austin Pendleton is every bit as good. The show is the 2nd in a shortened, 3-play season BTC is staging at the Artists' Exchange in Cranston, bookended by the recently closed "Doctor Cerberus" and the about to open "The Bald Soprano," by Eugene Ionesco. Helen Hayes Award winner and former Arena Stage Associate Artistic Director Kyle Donnelly returns to direct the D.C.-area premiere of the show with a cast that features Tony Award nominee and two-time Helen Hayes Award winner Helen Carey (Mary Tyrone in Arena Stage's Long Day's Journey into Night, Broadway's Hedda Gabler) as matriarch Polly Wyeth and two-time Tony Award nominee Larry Bryggman (Broadway's Harvey, CBS's As the World Turns) as patriarch Lyman Wyeth. TRIBES Announces Final 2-Week Extensions

Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian, and Tom Wirtshafter, producers of the acclaimed Off-Broadway hit play Tribes, have announced a two-week extension of the award-winning production. It was previously announced Tribes had officially recouped its entire investment and would end its monumental run on January 6, 2013. But, due to popular demand, the final performance will now be Sunday evening, January 20, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at The Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) where performances began February 16, 2012. Tribes opened to rave reviews on March 4, 2012 and at closing will have given 19 preview and 391 regular performances. (more...)

Austin Pendleton to Lead Off-Broadway's THE LAST WILL

Austin Pendleton is set to play William Shakespeare in Abingdon Theatre Company's Off-Broadway premiere of Robert Brustein's THE LAST WILL, which he will also direct, beginning Friday, April 5 in the June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Brustein's final installment of his trilogy examining the life of William Shakespeare, THE LAST WILL is set to open on April 17, with performances through May 5. OBIE Award-winner Austin Pendleton replaces actor Peter Cameron who has left the production. (more...)
