Freely adapted from Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

Nothing is as thrilling on the stage as a well-crafted tale, and Oliver! is just such a show. Based on the Dickens novel, it engages with its pathos and drama, while delighting everyone with the musical numbers "Food, Glorious Food," "I'd Do Anything," "Where is Love?," "Consider Yourself," "As Long As He Needs Me," and "Who Will Buy." Dickens' characters are brought to life-perhaps larger than life-with all their facets glowing in this production.

BWW Recap: The Inevitable Love/Hate Relationship on NASHVILLEBWW Recap: The Inevitable Love/Hate Relationship on NASHVILLE
by Wendi Reichstein - Oct 22, 2014

On any decently written drama, there's always that one character that you absolutely hate, but at the same time want them to stay on the show due to all of the engaging, crazy, can't-look-away drama they cause. On THE OC, it was Oliver. On GOSSIP GIRL, it was Georgina. And on NASHVILLE, it's Jeff Fordham. Not only is he about to attempt to sign Maddie and Daphne to his label- without Rayna's knowledge nor permission, but he's right on the heels of Will's alleged affair with his 'trainer,' and cockily shoving a non-disclosure agreement in his face. You want to punch Jeff in the face (along with several of the characters on the show), but at the same time, he is driving so much conflict that without him you wouldn't be half as interested. And that, fellow Nashies, is what you call superb acting on top of excellent writing. (more...)

The Pacific Northwest Ballet Presents DIRECTOR'S CHOICE, 11/7-16The Pacific Northwest Ballet Presents DIRECTOR'S CHOICE, 11/7-16
by BWW News Desk - Oct 22, 2014

For DIRECTOR'S CHOICE, the second program of Pacific Northwest Ballet's 2014-2015season, Artistic Director Peter Boal selects two PNB premieres paired with stunning repertory works in this absorbing mixed-bill. Opening the program, David Dawson's breath-taking, hyper-extended A Million Kisses to my Skin references the intoxicating bliss dancers experience while performing. Rassemblement, Nacho Duato's poignant work set to slave songs by Haitian artist Toto Bissainthe, voices communal yearning and resistance in a climate of oppression. Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's (Cylindrical Shadows) critically-acclaimed signature piece, Before After, a PNB premiere, unmasks the turmoil just before a relationship ends. The performance closes with Debonair, a world premiere by New York City Ballet's rising star Justin Peck, praised for "electrifying classical dance with [his] fresh vision" (Wall Street Journal). The program also includes a musical prelude to shine the spotlight on the nationally renowned PNB Orchestra, currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary season. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE runs for seven performances only, November 7-16, 2014 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. Tickets start at just $28 and may be purchased by calling the PNB Box Office at 206.441.2424, online at PNB.org, or in person at the PNB Box Office, 301 Mercer Street. (more...)

BWW Recap: Progress Made on This Week's PARENTHOODBWW Recap: Progress Made on This Week's PARENTHOOD
by Matt Smith - Oct 17, 2014

This season of PARENTHOOD has been definitely packed with enough drama, and the writers are brilliantly beginning to close up storylines while offering us new ones to keep us busy and immersed enough in the show that presumably we forget that it's ending in, like, December/January. It's a smart move, though as you'll see below, I think the new plot lines in the final episodes of the season — not to mention the season's shortened 13-episode run, which this week drops us down to just 9 (single digits, people!) — will seem a bit rushed given the time length.
