OF MICE AND MEN Ends Broadway Run Today; Revival to be Filmed

The Broadway revival of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men played its final performance today. The producion starred Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner James Franco, BAFTA and Tony Award nominee Chris O'Dowd, Leighton Meester, and Tony and Olivier Award winner Jim Norton. Directed by Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro, Of Mice and Men was the first 'hit' of the spring, recouping its $3.8 million capitalization in only twelve weeks. The critically acclaimed production originally opened on Wednesday, April 16, at Broadway's Longacre Theatre (220 West 48 Street). (more...)

MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) just announced that film star Heather Graham, Gia Crovatin, Golden Globe nominee Callie Thorne, and Frederick Weller will star in the world premiere of MCC Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute's new play, The Money Shot, directed by Terry Kinney. Performances for The Money Shot begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on September 4, 2014. Founded in the aftermath of Seattle's 1962 World's Fair, Seattle Opera has become one of America's most respected opera companies and a powerhouse in Seattle's cultural scene. Now, to mark the company's growth and accomplishments, we are pleased to announce the publication of a stunning new large-format book: 50 Years of Seattle Opera. Written by Melinda Bargreen and published by Marquand Books, a Seattle-based designer and producer of fine art books. Bargreen has reviewed and covered the highs and lows of Seattle Opera on behalf of The Seattle Times for close to 40 of the company's 50 years; she writes with a unique authority on the subject. The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Bright Star, a new American musical featuring music by Edie Brickell and Steve Martin, lyrics by Brickell, and book by Martin, based on an original story by Martin and Brickell. Directed by Walter Bobbie, Bright Star will run September 13 - November 2, 2014 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. The Manhattan Opera Repertory Ensemble will present legendary opera conductor and composer Anton Coppola in a discusion of Italian opera and a masterclass on interpretation and style featuring selected singers from MORE Opera's roster at Most Precious Blood Church, 109 Mulberry Street in Little Italy on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 7:30 PM. The program is presented in conjunction with MORE Opera's October 12th and 15th performances of Puccini's “Tosca,” under the renowned conductor's baton at Dicapo Opera Theater. In addition to the masterclass, Maestro Coppola will reflect on hisconducting career, verismo opera, and his unique vision for MORE Opera's upcoming production of “Tosca” during the 90-minute program. Greg Weber Named Tulsa Opera Managing Director

Currently Director of Production at San Francisco Opera, Weber brings more than 28 years of experience in arts management.
