The theatrical productions Of Mice and Men on Broadway and London's Treasure Island kick off the partnership with the National Theatre's groundbreaking project National Theatre Live, which films and broadcasts live stage productions in filmic quality and detail. The only place in Lancaster County showing these productions is Steinman Hall at The Ware Center, located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster. More films will be added in the Spring. (more...)

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) presents Dunsinane, playwright David Greig's majestic sequel to Shakespeare's Macbeth, presented by the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and directed by Roxana Silbert. First premiered by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Hampstead Theatre in 2010, this tour marks the U.S. premiere of Dunsinane after a highly successful tour to East Asia and Russia in spring 2014. Hailed by The Guardian as "a work of compelling intelligence, provocation and wit," Dunsinane will play at the Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from February 4-21, 2015. (more...)

Opera San Josť continues its 31st season with the WORLD PREMIERE of Where Angels Fear to Tread by American composer Mark Lanz Weiser, libretto by Roger Brunyate. This bold new opera, based on the novel by E. M. Forster, unveils a collision of cultures that leads to a misunderstanding of horrific consequences, set in motion when a rich English widow marries a middle-class but handsome young Italian against the wishes of her family. Where Angels Fear to Tread will be sung in English with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled February 7 through 22 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San Josť. Tickets are on sale at the Opera San Josť Box Office, online at operasj.org or by phone at (408) 437-4450. The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center will present a live panel discussion with the producing team behind Broadway's Of Mice and Men in conjunction with the HD broadcast of the play by National Theatre Live on Saturday, December 20. The pre-screening panel will take place onstage at the Mahaiwe starting at 7:00pm, followed by the 8:00pm broadcast. Panelists will include Broadway Producer David Binder, Marketing Director/Associate Producer Eric Schnall, Steinbeck Estate Representative Elizabeth Winick Rubinstein, and Executive Producer/General Manager Wendy Orshan, who will serve as moderator.
