College of DuPage (COD) College Theater presents Oscar Wilde's "A Woman of No Importance," directed by COD Professor of Theater, Amelia Barrett at the McAninch Arts Center's Studio Theatre, Oct. 6-23. "A Woman of No Importance" premiered in 1893 in London's Haymarket Theatre. As with many of Wilde's plays, it satirizes English upper class society and features many witty, memorable and highly quotable lines, such as "Men marry because they are tired; women because they are curious. The Menier Chocolate Factory today announces that Scarlett Strallen (Amalia Balash) will be joined by Alastair Brookshaw (Ladislav Sipos), Les Dennis (Mr Maraczek), Callum Howells (Arpad Laszlo), Katherine Kingsley(Ilona Ritter), Dominic Tighe (Steven Kodaly) and Mark Umbers (Georg Nowack), with Rachel Bingham, Peter Dukes, Luke Fetherston, Olivia Fines, Aimee Hodnett, Sarah-Marie Maxwell and Vincent Pirillo for the company's major revival of She Loves Me this Christmas. The production reunites Strallen with director Matthew White, following their previous collaboration at the Menier on Candide. While it seems almost by chance, the artistic director of Blank Canvas selects the likes of OUR TOWN, TWELVE ANGRY MEN and Of Mice and Men. But most often Ciamacco digs up such scripts as THE WILD PARTY (a play about decadence and uninhibited sexual behavior), REEFER MADNESS (the 'truth' about using marijuana), BAT BOY THE MUSICAL (the tale of a large-eyed fanged human child), TRIASSIC PARQ THE MUSICAL (a songfest 65-million years in the making), DEBBIE DOES DALLAS (a stage version of the 1978 pornographic film), and TEXAS CHAINSAW MUSICAL (the story of a handsome serial killer and his overly affectionate momma, staged complete with a 'blood zone,' where members of the audience chose, if they desired, to be bathed in fake blood!) The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey rings in the holiday season with a timeless production of A Child's Christmas in Wales, based on the classic story by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and adapted for the stage by Jeremy Brooks and Adrian Mitchell. The festive show is being revived for the first time since it last appeared on the STNJ stage in 2003, featuring Greg Jackson in the role of Dylan Thomas. Performances begin November 30 and run through January 1 at the F.M. ICA Miami Presents German Artist Thomas Bayrle During Art Basel Miami, 11/29

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) presents a major survey of renowned German artist Thomas Bayrle, opening on November 29, 2016, during Art Basel Miami Beach. Marking the first American museum presentation dedicated to the artist, One Day on Success Street traces Bayrle's exploration of the profoundly complex impact of technology on humans and their environments over the course of his nearly 50-year career and across a range of media including painting, sculpture, video, collage, and installation. A centerpiece of the survey will be Wire Madonna, a newly commissioned and monumental site-specific installation created for ICA Miami's Atrium Gallery. Organized by Deputy Director and Chief Curator Alex Gartenfeld and Assistant Curator Stephanie Seidel, and on view through March 26, 2017, the exhibition marks ICA Miami's final presentation in the landmark Moore Building, as it looks forward to the opening of its new permanent home in the Miami Design District in late 2017. Mike Bartlett's EARTHQUAKES IN LONDON to Make U.S. Debut at Steep Theatre

Steep Theatre will present the first professional U.S. production of Tony nominee and Olivier Award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett's Earthquakes in London, opening January 26, 2017. Steep's production opens on the heels of another Chicago production of this enormously exciting playwright's work, the critically-acclaimed King Charles III at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Earthquakes will be helmed by one of Chicago's most exciting talents, Steep Ensemble Member and Jeff Award-winning director Jonathan Berry.  Berry recently directed Steppenwolf Theatre's Constellations, and, over the years, has consistently produced some of Steep's most notable shows, including Season 15's Posh by Laura Wade, which won the Non-Equity Jeff Award for Best Ensemble, and was nominated for Best Director and Best Production.  (more...)
